Did you play hardcoe in New Vegas?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 12:33 am

There's a good debate about hardcoe mode going on http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1524484-any-word-on-a-hardcoe-mode/. It got me curious how many people tried hardcoe mode in New Vegas and how many of us are looking for it to return in 4. Personally I never played on hardcoe but I have a roommate who won't play with it off. Since trophy tracking is apparently a terrible indicator since it has to be on for 100% of the play through to count lets get a smaller sample of just these forums.

I couldn't play NV without the HC mode on. I tried and it only felt sad and trite. So yes, if I ever end up playing Fallout 4, and if it has some sort of decently thought out HC mode (optimally doing more gameplay changes than NV did), that's what I'll be using.

Sure, I'd use a hardcoe mode if it existed. But do I want it implimented like NV? Not really. I liked everything but the food and drink. Everything else added actual difficulty, food/drink just added busywork.

Additionally, I'd prefer that they changed the name to "survival" mode. To me "hardcoe" sounds indicative of a difficulty level, but that's just me, I could be wrong.

I can say this much... if it isn't in the game by default there will be a mod for it with in the first few days of the modding kits being available.

Nearly 600 hours of fallout NV and I never did a hardcoe playthrough. Not something im really looking for in fallout 4.

My opinion on the matter but everybody has something they really want in a game, this one just isnt mine.

Yes and yes. Also agree with The Cheshire Khajiit that survival mode would be a better description.

I like hardcoe mode and I use it, I just think it's overrated. :P It's really weird to me that people find New Vegas unplayable without it; it's not that huge an overhaul.

I would use it in Fallout 4 if it were there, but I'd really hope they made improvements to it so that the resource management feels more natural.

I tried "hardcoe" mode in New Vegas for five hours and then turned it off. It was too primitive to add anything of substance to my roleplaying.

I do not like "hardcoe" mods for Fallout 3 or TES games either. I have yet to see a "hardcoe" mode or mod that responds well to the idiosyncrasies of my characters. It's easier and more rewarding for me to handle these things with my own imagination.

If a "hardcoe" mode were in Fallout 4 I would try it, just as I tried New Vegas' "hardcoe" mode. I am an optimist. I continue to hope that someday there will be a sophisticated "hardcoe" system. But it hasn't arrived yet and I won't be holding my breath when I install Fallout 4.

I've read a lot of your posts, you have some good ideas. How would you like to see a "hardcoe/Survival mode" work?

If it's not too difficult to include, I'd certainly like to see a hardcoe mode in the game. I like the additional difficulty.

I think a hardcoe option would be nice.
But it barely added any difficulty in New Vegas... If you had already done a playthrough, hardcoe was very easy and you could play almost as casual as you'd like.

People who never tried hardcoe didn't really miss out on anything.

Nope, tho it added some interesting mechanics it ultimatly falls short due to the needs mechanic, just felt like busywork then anything else.

This is how I feel about the way NV did hardcoe mode and the reason why ahter roughly an hour I turned it off. The ammo having weight and needing a splint to fix damaged limbs were a feature that were worth having but the need to eat and sleep were all too easy to fix to be worth it. Any hardcoe mode in 4 isgoing to need to step it up wirh legitimate diffaculty or I won't bother.

Yeah the trophy tracker is bunk :)
I've played a couple dozen FNV games but only finished to the end for two of them. But all games had hardcoe turned on.

I did play hardcoe in New Vegas, but only once for the achievement on Xbox before I got into PC gaming.

Lately I've been getting into that kind of thing though. I've finally got around to putting Frostfall into my Skyrim build and it's amazing. I can't wait for Last Seed.

I think if it's done well then I'd definitely use these kind of survival features in Fallout 4.

I read in one of the other topics a suggestion that hardcoe mode be modular. I think that is a pretty cool idea. I did play my first character in New Vegas through hardcoe mode. I thought it added something to the game, but the whole Food/Drink thing annoyed me. In Skyrim, I modded the game to do the same sort of thing but I always kept getting rid of the Food/Drink mods because they were very much the busywork mentioned above. I prefer a mod that adds a positive, small incentive for food, like the current one I use in Skyrim that adds small, but extended timeframe, bonuses to Health or Stamina regeneration rates. The weighted ammo and coin mods are essential parts of the game for me now.

In Fallout 4, I am very likely to use a hardcoe mode (if present) or a series of mods that adds that into the game. I may be remembering incorrectly, but I recalled a bit about radioactive storms in Fallout 4? If I am not just senile and that actually was mentioned, what better vehicle to build a Survival/hardcoe mode around? I'm looking forward to seeing how such a thing might be implemented.

The way they talked about radiation storms, it sounded more like radiation would spike when lightning struck. So the storms wouldn't just constantly irradiate you while you're there, but just drop a dose of radiation on you occasionally while you were inside. Which sounds better to me.

It should've done more than it did, but it was the only thing that added at least a bit of mechanical intrigue and differentiated the core gameplay from Fallout 3.

It was just boring to watch the companions continuously get unconscious, spamming the stims, watching the bullet piles grow to 1000's, and so on. It wasn't fun to play (it wasn't all that fun with HC mode either, but it was more bearable).
