- good: yes.
- neutral: sometimes.
- evil: no.

So far, I've only had one character in Fallout 3 ever since the game was released, and Wyatt is a real do-gooder. He saved Butch's mom, but I still have to get the achievements for completing the game as a neutral and evil character, so I'm sure I won't save her the next time I start a new game.

the first time i played i failed to save butch's mom because i wasn't able to save her on the first try and i just wanted yo play through the story.

I did, what the heck I had to beat the guy up at the beginning, but his mom didn't deserve to die or get hurt.

I was too slow getting to her and she died in my first game but I've saved her in every game since. I don't know why. I don't even like her.

Depends on the character. The last one dropped a baseball bat on the ground and walked away. Butch did alright.

I save her everytime.

Even if my character is evil, he's not that evil.

I did on my good playthrough.

I didnt on my evil playthrough. It was one of the very few times I felt bad about doing something in a video game. And what he says to you after she dies really brought it home.

So on my neutral play I saved her.

Not only didn't I save her. I stood there and watched her die after I had killed Butch.

I tried to on my first save... I got lost and failed to save her and got jumped by Butch so had to kill him... Not my proudest moment xD

Neither Butch or his dead mother are in New Vegas.

Thats what happened. This was orignally in the Fallout 3 general forum. Was meant to be moved into the F3 spoiler forum.

My first character tried to save her, but like ghoulsrpeople2, I wasn't quick enough and the roaches ate her (I was still figuring out how things worked then). Since then I always save her.

In Fallout 3, it's inside the vault after you find out your dad left from Amata. Once she tells you you have to leave when you are on your way to find the Overseers office Butch will come up to you and tell you to save his mom. Then there you obviously have the choice to do so or not.
