Didn't we already visit Skyrim in the E.S. III: Blood Moon

Post » Mon Dec 13, 2010 12:33 pm

Before you rip into me too much let me buy some backlash insurance. I will be reserving this game, counting the days until its release, and no doubt play it for 300 hours from that release. That being said I am slightly let down at the location of the newest Elder Scrolls game. Like Oblivion we will once again be denied one of the truly imaginative worlds of the other races. Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is still my favorite game of the series for many reasons. The main one being its exotic locale and unique architecture. Oblivion failed to wow like Morrowind did, in both landscape and setting. Though the view into Sheogorath's world was special if not limited. I was really hoping this new game would have been set in the Argonian, High Elf, Breton, Orc, or Khajit's homeworld. Any one of these would have made my anticipation for this game unbearable. Maybe I'm way off here and should just be satisfied that a new Adventure game from an exceptional company is coming out. What do you think?

That was Solstheim, not Skyrim

edit: even so it was actually my favourite location so I don't mind if lots of Skyrim is similar

Nope, we went to Solstheim. Which is actually in the province of Morrowind.

And before you think it's all snow. It isn't. Not according to Lore it isn't anyway, and hopefully Bethesda will stick to that lore.

The Bretons and Orcs were covered in TES II, and High Rock is a traditional western high fantasy setting just like Cyrodiil. Daggerfall has been released for free so you can download it and try it out yourself, it is an excellent game but an exotic local it is not.

Many people who played Morrowind were turned off by it's extremely exotic setting, others loved it (I belong to this latter group). TES IV of course had the opposite situation with the opposite complaints. Personally I think Skyrim is great middle ground, I imagine it will be similar enough to traditional fantasy settings to give people who like that a comfortable foundation while remaining fresh enough to appeal to those who like more exotic settings. Will it have giant mushrooms? No. But it will still have environments that aren't often seen in fantasy games even if they aren't too far afield.

solstiem was an isleland east of skyrim and north of vardenfell (which was not the whole of morrowind either) and it was a sort of no mans land of the empire and still controlled mostly by tribal nords. you should expect to see a dramatic difference in SK.

That's right! It was Solthsteim. Thanks guys. I completely forgot the name. LOL, It was years ago. Well I'm a little more eager now. I would still love to see the Argonian homeworld! That would be something! Imagine the creatures you would find there.

That was Solstheim, which I think is classified as Morrowind. And that was just a snowy island with a touch of nord culture - we have the full monty in Skyrim.I think any of the elven lands or other human lands would be too Oblivion-esque.Skyrim is a contrast to anything we've played before - not as civilized, more darker and a Norse-y touch on TES lore.Besides,I think the storyline of TES V wouldn't fit in Elsewyr or Black Marsh either.

based on what was in the argonian account. the black marsh doesn't sound like a place that would be either; fun or filled with variety.

Imagine the isles of the High Elfs. Where we can actually go aboard ships and have battles among the islands. Think of the possibility of magic and majesty in that setting.

Nope, we went to Solstheim. Which is actually in the province of Morrowind.

Technically, during the time-period MW was in, it was a sovereign state, aka owned by no other province. After Infernal City, though, that all changed. (I don't really know what i went to)

I would still love to see the Argonian homeworld! That would be something! Imagine the creatures you would find there.

Argonia/Black Marsh would be one of the most dangerous places in Tamriel. It's so dangerous that no men live there because of some kind of disease/plague that routinely wipes out almost all men that try to live there. And that's not to mention the humongous creatures the size of houses/buses.

While Solthsteim was politically part of Morrowind it was culturally and geographically part of Skyrim - while we haven't technically been to the province Skyrim in the core series since Arena Solthsteim has a largely arctic climate and native Nordic populations - politics aside I think we can say Bloodmoon gave us a good taste of Nord culture and the environment of Skyrim.

I'm pretty sure it would be just another Great Forest from OB. I expect Elsweyr jungle or Balck Marsh swamps :celebration:

elsweyer actually is part jungle, part desert. i think that would be pretty fun to visit. black marsh too.
based off what i've read on Summerset Isles, i dont think i'd be super excited to go there. just more "clear pastures" and "idyllic orchards". i want more rugged beauty. thats why im excited for skyrim

Black marsh seems rather small for a game all its own, but Elsweyr really should be paired with Valenwood given their history. Still, the subject of debate right now is Skyrim, which looks to be a nice change from the generic green fields and castles. Skyrim, of course, isn't all frozen so I'm ready to see some nice variety, but I have a feeling most of my early exploring will be in the bitter north.

Although Solstheim is more than likely similar to Skyrim, it was not Skyrim.
I personally am excited as all get out about it being in Skyrim, as I've wanted TES:V to be set there since..05?

Do you remember the first time you saw Vivec City in TES 3. I will never forget that day. It was one of my top ten moments in gaming history. I remember literally taking it in like one would a breath taking work out art. Bethesda designed that city perfectly. I mean it still holds up today despite monumental graphical advancements. I just want to feel that rush of majesty again. That inspiration. I didn't really get that with Oblivion and I have my doubts I will get that with Skyrim. But that all remains to be seen. I wont judge it until it comes out.

I wanted to see Elsweyr & Valenwood. After seeing Iliana's interpretation of it, i was eager to see how Bethesda made it. That was a while ago, I had forgotten about it for a while, but once they announced Skyrim, I really thought about it. Morrowind already did the frozen thing with Bloodmoon, but Skyrim promises to be much more.

Skyrim will be similiar as they based the landscape off of Skyrim. And I loved Bloodmoon so I have the feeling I will love Skyrim.

I have no doubt that the masterminds at Bethesda will work their magic for this game like they do all the others (I love this company and while in sub text mode will also give a shot out to Level 5 [long live Dark Cloud 2]). I was just a little let down with Oblivion's lack of true exotic and majesty. I hope that Skyrim recaptures these elements.
