Didn't like Morrowind and Oblivion, but Skyrim ROCKS!

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 6:51 pm

In morrowind I found myself with a 50 page journal and no idea where to go to even proceed with the main quest. I was overwhelmed and couldn't bring myself to sift through that crap everytime I wanted to do a quest.

I understand your point. But Morrowind as you know belong to another era when instant satisfaction was just around the corner.

That's right. Morrowind wasn't for the casual gamer.(even though Beth tried)

Unfortunately the casual gamers are more than the hardcoe/roleplayers :(

Reading this thread has made me fear for the future of TES, a future where Bethesda's target audience wants less depth and interaction, and more mindless hack and slash.

Why do so many assume that just because someone likes Skyrim more than Morrowind it means they are a "casual" gamer or like things easy? Perhaps people just have different tastes?

The ease of the games has nothing to do with why I like Skyrim more. I'm a hardcoe RPG'r, and i have played hundreds of them since I was 6 years old. Skyrim's world and dungeons just seem well designed and more inspired than Morrowind's. I agree that some things are missing (spell making) but overall I feel like it is a more interesting game.

For me, it was an orgismic lore-fest to move between the games. All it comes down to is, "OPINION, OPINION, OPINION." Either way, we all love Elder Scrolls.

This game can take hours to play through it's hardly a casual game when you can just wander all over if you want and you have spend perk points wisely not a casual game

Compared to a real RPG, Skyrim is a casual game.

One thing I'm noticing is that for new TES players Skyrim doesn't look like a casual game but for the veterans who have played TES since Daggerfall, Skyrim seems like a casual game.

why do you think I'm a new TES player? I had Morrowind on the original Xbox and computer when it first came out. Just because there are a lot of people that have differing opinions everyone is a new player or a call of duty fan?

I see it like this.

1. Vanilla Morrowind
2. Vanilla Skyrim
3. Daggerfall

*After Updates, DLC/Expansions/Mods*

1. Modded Skyrim
2. Modded Morrowind
3. Modded Oblivion

Skyrim is a heck of a lot easier at times then Morrowind was. Those freaking kwanma warriors (even at a low level themselves) would destroy you in seconds at low levels while the equivalent type of enemies are relatively easy to fight in Skyrim at low levels. Not to mention health regen, magika regen, and a really fast speed.

I actually liked both Morrowind and Oblivion more then Skyrim for there leveling up mechanics

This you level up no matter what with little to know thought or planning seems childish for a true RPG

The you pick 1 of 3 attributes and a perk per level up seems simplistic

Its Oblivion > Morrowind > Skyrim

Ok, Morrowind I can understand because it's older and the graphics are a bit of a turn off, but Oblivion? Really? It's pretty much Skyrim, just a little less epic.

Why do i get comments like: 'your a gamer, who's just wants to hack and slash and wants to play an easy game'.

I never said that, i said i wanted that Morwind and Obvion to have a better combat system because for me (im new to the TESgames) it svcked big time.
For the rest of the games, they were good games with good storylines (exept Oblvion, that one was just lame). I liked that, also liked the depth in quests, that you must ask people around to find something or ghet half hints so the other half you have to find yourself.

The only thing i wanted (and said) in TES was a combat system that is almost the same as a actoingame.
