Difference between races : what improvement !

Post » Fri Jul 08, 2011 3:16 am

i was expecting since the announcement of Skyrim the way BGS will orient development about races and their own uniqueness. Saddly (maddeningly) i meet a oblivion`s copy-paste but now with better graphics and animations which i rellyappreciate , belive me ,but that's not the point.
I mean the deeply on a race essence is absent.
there are certain topics that demonsotrate this:

-All races races have the same base speed (worse than OB)
-Differents animations only for beast races and two for gender.
-SPECIAL POWERS again dominated by magic effects, again the same useless spells . I dont understand if i am playing with a khajit WHY I MUST TO ACTIVATE A IDIOTIC NIGHT VISION SPELL TO SEE IN THE DARKNESS ? cats do?
WHAT SENSE MAKE A SPECIAL POWER SPELL THAT LATER IS PASSED BY STATS/SKILLS ??

Its 4 AM here so it might just be me, but I have no idea what you're saying.

Disregard that, I got it. I concur. There should be more major differences between races. And Khajits should definately be able to hotkey nightvision without a spell animation.

Apparently their idea of "major" is quite different from most people's. I agree with you.

I... think I understand what you are complaining about.

Personally, I choose the races that I play based on their visual design and game-lore. In fact, the only time I've ever taken racials into account was for my OB assassin Sheds-No-Tears (love passive water-breathing) and occasionally the passive resistance to certain magicka is handy.

I'm all for more diversity among the races, but I'd rather see it brought about through their clothing, accents, the factions they join and the causes they fight for. Regardless of this being a fantasy game, it tries to take itself very seriously and to play out as realistically as possible.

Just like real life, your ethnicity can only affect you so much. In the end, your decisions, your education, your choices, and a little bit of luck make you who you are.

Races are pretty much aesthetic now, and it svcks. MW and DF actually made for different gameplay for each race.

I'm super pumped about the difference in races! Widely ranging body types, different voice actors, they even have some different animations!

And the race looks, I mean, they are totally amazing. I'm seriously not being sarcastic, I actually love the differences they've done in the races. :)

Yes but that wouldn't be quite "accessible" enough -.-'

They said beast races will get some specific animations, but that doesn't mean the other races won't get some as well

seems like a pretty pointless thing to get that upset over... here is the solution: if you have the insane amounts of money to waste, buy a gaming PC and change the races however you like.

make the khajiit look like that lion from narnia, give them constant night-eye which will make you sick of them after about a minute of playing, make argonians look like godzilla and give them nuclear mouth blasts, make nords look like arnold schwarzeneggar and give them bad acting skills!

change all the races and give them all the crazy abilities you think they should have, make bosmer skip when running, make altmer float, dunmer slither on the ground, whatever.

thats why bethesda gives us the ability to mod the game, so you can change it however you want, for the most part.

im loving how the races are looking so far, i dont think they look anything like oblivion's, especially now that we can even change their body types and use face paint, scars, etc...

i hope we get some screenshots of each race before too long, though... i have to see what the dunmer look like, and argonians, since i plan on playing a dunmer, and i intend to marry an argonian.

still cant believe they confirmed marriage... my head is spinning.

thank you, bethesda!

should elves hop on their ears or something ???

I think u guys expect unrealistic things from Bethesda, u have to remember they don't have unlimited time and money u know, so they only gave kahjiit and argoninas different animations which is great, and male and females move differently which is awesome

honestly u can make ur kahjit run faster than an orc.

HOW????!!! well pick stamina in a few level ups and hit that sprint button until ur finger falls off

I too am slightly disappointed that there won't be more difference between races. I mean it really wouldn't have been difficult to change the starting attributes, encumbrance or base speed for each race to be slightly different and more suited to them.
The race greater power thing returning was also disappointing. They could have easily made it a passive ability like argonian waterbreathing or race specific perks and actually made them useful or heck just make their race bonus slightly different attributes like I mentioned before.

honestly u can make ur kahjit run faster than an orc.

You can't run faster only longer.

Well, they seem to generally be going on the "mmo-route" as far as races go, where all races, aesthetics aside have the exact same general ability and potential as another. I personally, dont see much of an issue with it to be honest. Racial differences in the past tended to have a moderate impact at low levels, but once you were maxed out at high levels....you were indistinguishable from another character of a different races after a certain point anyways which kind of defeats the purpose of having the distinction in the first place.

How could they differentiate much between races without attributes, they makes sense to differentiate.
They cannot differentiate skills to much, too much weakness and resistance could easy be very unbalancing, remember that npc get the same effect to and npc with immunity against frost or poison would be annoying.

The greater power spells is a joke a spell you can cast once a day is pretty hopeless.

Now it appears that Skyrim will be more racist than Oblivion where everyone liked you from the beginning. In addition the races looks more different than in Oblivion.
