Difference between Skyrim and Oblivion.

Thought I might do some shameless advertising and show off this comparison video I made of Skyrim and Oblivion. It's not perfect and well it mostly is about landscapes and some of the comparison areas were a bit random but I still think it should be seen by public.

I don't really understand how people are saying that Skyrim's graphics are bad, IMO it looks great. Especially when compared to Oblivion.

I agree. Great video. What it shows though is just how good the artistry was in oblivion. It's not a huge difference, but skyrim feels like a nice upgrade graphically, especially on close up and atmospheric effects, as well as the animations.

Yeah, the biggest difference in skyrim to oblivion IMO is the atmosphere. I just love it, oblivion looks a bit too bright and uhh "happy" in comparison to the rugged feeling of skyrim.

Nice video. I really appreciate the new facegen tech in Skyrim. Oblivion's faces were so shapeless and weird.

The biggest difference I have noticed is that it's got the worst interface of any previous ES games.
It's almost impossible to use the mouse and the keyboard is a mess. Going through your inventory is an awful chore and no fun at all.
It's full of glitches and bugs - I've been stuck several times in the first half hour of play, however I somewhat expect that with a new game of this size.
Had to edit the ini file just to use a mouse and it's still awful - apparently you need a 360 controller or use a xbox to play the way Bethesda intended. It's not really pc friendly.

The long distance graphics are great but close up are horrible.
When NPC's talk and there are several around it's hard to figure out if they are talking to you or not. Especially noticable when two NPCs are voiced by the same actor and say the lines while standing together. They repeat the same thing over every minute or so.

I'm assuming that the game eventually gets more fun but so far it's too rushed for me.
I prefer Oblivion 's world to live in as its warmer and and feels more solid
Skyrim does have a lot more to it in its newly done way of blocky modeling and lowres texturing but it does not feel comfortable.

Conclusion? I'll keep my Oblivion and modding for the foreseeable future and wait until the Creation Kit is available and see if I can change it the way I want like I have with Morrowind and Oblivion.

I really didn't have to buy it first day out just to feel like this, so if you haven't bought it yet for a PC and mouse, just wait'll they patch it and the modders have a go and then it'll become another legendary ElderScrolls game from Bethesda .

I think that the UI for skyrim is fine. There are some things I liked better from oblivions UI but eh it's just a matter of opinion.

I agree. When it comes to menus and HUD I'll take Skyrim any day over Oblivion. I thought Oblivion's tabbed menu system - with its tabs within tabs - was the most horribly-designed PC UI I have ever seen in a video game.

I couldn't say it better my self and what more is there to say about that video. Cool and realistic video.

Having watched my brother play, it seems the ONLY issue that I've seen with the UI is that you have to manually click "Yes" when you're crafting objects. Everything else seemed just fine. Menu navigation was fine with either the mouse or the keyboard, but it seemed to work fastest and best with the keyboard, which is just fine since it was a simple matter of using WASD to navigate. It seemed pretty fluid to me.

Edit: However, we all know that whether we dislike the UI or not, we're going to get Darn's UI for it. That man works miracles.

I think you can press "Y" to select "Yes". It's a bit inconsistent though.

Another problem I've had is that sometimes it gets stuck in dialogue and I just can't get away!
