Different actions for corpse inventory now?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 9:15 am

During a car explosion after which I believe to be an explosive projectile (grenade) was thrown, a ghoul was tossed towards the PC. Obviously deceased since the contextual inputs read as these two: Take & Transfer

What's the idea? Am I going to barter with a dead person now? Shouldn't it all be one easy menu? Maybe with two actual options, it might even be "streamlined".

"Take" gets the job done of looting the corpse while "Transfer" allows you to...store?

Or have I misse something altogether...

Or maybe the ghoul is alive and since "Take" is in red, it might be for stealing while "Transfer" is to place something in their inventory, like a live grenade.

I'm thinking "Transfer" is basically 'E' 'A' for FO3 and NV or a "take all" command so as not to view the menu at all.

Not view the contents we're putting in the inventory? Why?

To save extra time I guess.
Maybe a disappearing text of "1 Stimpak, 2 Mutfruit, 1 Power Armor helmet has been added to your inventory" will flash a few seconds.
If that were the case it's gonna "ruin immersion" for many players who want to pick 1 item at a time and include the animation of actually removing a guy's gear...

Can you explain the context inputs then? They shouldn't appear unless they actually had purpose. It's just different than it was.

none finished gameplay (with a ton of stuff undiscussed ) could be place holders (with most people focusing on "oh pretty explosion"than button prompts from screenshots.)

It's probably safe to assume that those are probably finalized actions. I'm going with that, personally. Pressing A will bring up a lite menu for taking items, while pressing X might bring up the bigger menu that we all know.

At the stage of development Beth is in with FO4, with less than six months left before release, it's not likely to be simply a placeholder.

We're speculating about a apparently empty body (take is dark and there was nothing there to take apparently) that literally flew past faster than most people could register that the loot option had even popped up.

The only thing I could take from that screen was that take was dark green and the transfer button was brighter, and that corps probably had no loot.

For all we know that flying corps was actualy stuffed full of sweet juicy steaks, drugs, caps, mini guns, collectables, and ammo but he/she flew past so fast that the loot screen had not fully loaded yet before his or her loot box went flying off screen

Heh, good catch. Gonna be weird having two buttons for interaction with storage/bodies...has any other game done this before?

Actually, now I realize fully what's going on.

The two long brackets give it away. It's in style with how dialogue is going to be a contextual menu now (you hover away from an NPC and the dialogue goes away, you hover back and the dialogue reappears), so you won't be opening up the inventory to loot, in a manner of speaking. Maybe, the items on the body will show up between the brackets and you'll either use the d-pad or scroll wheel to select items and take them while not pausing the game time.

For item transfer, it'll probably open up your inventory in the brackets...

The take button may also be the new way to drag objects (considering they probably added sprinting they're running outta buttons and we still don't know anything signifigant about the game)

considering they can still tweak features until a month before release we don't know what can still change

Can I put a ghoul in my inventory, by hitting the "take" button? :D

That would actually be really freaking cool. "Take" would be for accessing their inventory, "Transfer" would be for letting us dump ours. In this case, "Take" is greyed out because the corpse is probably empty. And we'll probably be able to switch between take and transfer easily when we're in the menu.

Not sure it will be in real-time though. We don't really have any container interface to go off of, but we do see our inventory compared to a Bobblehead stand and a Junk Jet.

What if everything was contextual? Hover over a clutter item: X to take, Y to grab. Hover over a book: X to take, Y to read. Wild speculation! There are no rules!

That's exactly what they're going for, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I just hope the contextual commands for companions are tuned to be a little faster. It's painful watching my companion in Skyrim struggle to turn their body around just to move to a location.

Like, just turn around. Stop side-stepping in 1 spot 4 times just to face a direction. :ahhh:

Some chance A will take all, X give the container menu. A is most relevant on enemies who only or mostly carry useful loot, typically some animals and robots.

Using A on NPC will fill up your inventory with junk fast.

that happens now. I end up craming the low/no value crap into corpses or chests.

Honest to god one day I'm going to figure out how to mod a mailbox into exploding sending hundreds of thousands of plates tin cans empty bottles and other crap in a seemingly endless fountain of trash.

I would guess too that it's the option just to quickly take items or...

A: open container menu to take out times and put unwanted in if encumbrance is an issue

B: open a companion inventory menu, which could be another section of the above.

Maybe you can directly look at something on a corpse and take it, like their weapon or helmet? And "transfer" is just the classic system of bringing up a menu.

I've been wondering how this dynamic looting thing was going to work, and I think this looks pretty cool.

So hovering the cursor over a corpse or container will bring up a floating list of contents (if the ghoul had anything on him, it would have been listed between the long brackets). I suspect "Take" will either work as "Take All" or we'll be able to scroll through the list while it's on-screen and click to take individual items, and "Transfer" will open up a traditional inventory/loot screen.

This will make looting a large number of containers/bodies considerably quicker and easier than constantly going in and out of the loot menu, and also will make it real-time instead of freezing time for each menu. I think this looks like a nice improvement to the FO3 mechanic.
