Different Body Types!

Can't really see the use of having Fat Bastard in the ES series. He won't be able to steal anything, kill anything (unless he sits on it), hike, swim, endure prolonged physical exertion, that sort of thing. If I want to watch clumsy obese people flail about, I'd turn on the BIggest Loser.
(Which I hate, by the way. I wonder if any of those folks have a medical workup before the show. Judging by some of the high impact exerscises some were doing, I'd think not.)
All these people clamoring for realism need to realize that it will take longer to accomplish goals, at the expense of the player's health if the option is available to play an out of shape character.
Why waste gaming resources on that?

ROFL. I agree. I don't know, I wouldn't mind seeing differences in NPC looks/weight/height, but for me? I'd much prefer to be a good looking, tall, buff person. Who wants to play a fat character anyway? Who cares if it's more realistic? I don't play games for realism and I don't want to play a character that reminds me of people I have to look at in real life.

Pssh, I'd like to play a fat character but games don't give me the option.

I voted no as, at least under the current engine, it would use a ton of time to add this. However, if they could pull it off without sing up a huge amount of effort on it, sure.

I'd most likely always stay with the standard body size, but on NPCs it can help a lot. Making all of them different.
For instance, barkeepers being overweight, old folks being skinny or overweight (With appropriate "old skin texture"), Big muscular warriors, etc.

Unless folks in Tamriel are always at the local gym, they shouldn't all look like pumped up. :P

Though I see a small issue with animations...depending on how fat a person could be. I'd say it'd be better to simply add a larger belly/hips/arms, but not too much so that the NPC's arms don't pass through his body when he's moving.

The buff-ness should be automatically generated proportional to the character's strength stat.
Perhaps fatness should be proportional to how much fast travel is used combined with how much scrib jelly the character shovels into his face.

This would be awesome.
Don't forget that mead though.

Sounds nice, but I don't see it ever happening. They might be able to do it for select NPCs, but not player characters.

I would like this feature, but to me it falls under the category of "things that I wouldn't really miss if they weren't there". It would be cool, but completely unessential.

It wouldn't happen, because they would have to modify each piece of clothing and armor to fit every new body type and it would increase the workload by a lot.

It really isn't that complicated, at least for the clothing. They could use the "fit" body and then modify the mesh in game like they did with the face generation in Oblivion. If you get too big, armor no longer fits and you become vulnerable, weak and slow. ;)

*Heads over to the Morrowind Mods forum...

Better Bodies is in need of an update, I think...

Well correct me if I'm wrong but with no video games or television it's likely only the rich would be likely to get out of shape right? I suppose there could be bookworms too though.

Everyone need not be buff, but perhaps incorrectly I find it unlikely most would be overweight in a world where most cheap fun is found through physical activity.

I think the simplest yet also best way to do this would be to simply make three models for everything (might seem much, but considering the changes would likely be pretty simple and the fact that developing a system that automatically morphs everything would probably be even more difficult to make and correctly implement...*), for Ectomorphic, Mesomorphic and Endomorphic body types. Then, in addition to that, include a height slider (that scales width accordingly), and boom, everyone's happy.

Nobles could have a special "morbidly obese" body type.

* Probably not actually true, but I needed arguments, dammit.

Yes, this would definitely be something I'd like to see in the game. It would give NPCs much more character.

The NPCs in FO3 suggest we can look forward to good diversity in faces... hopefully diversity in body shape/type will come in Skyrim!
