Different characters, different perspectives . . .

I think it would be interesting to have a thread discussing people's experiences with having different perspectives of the same events/situations when playing different characters.

For example, my first character to visit Solstheim was a Dunmer mage, who felt very at home in Solstheim. He was saddened by the destruction of Vardenfell, and happy to see the place rebuilding and set about to assist in that as much as possible. He spent a significant amount of time there and missed it whenever he went back to Skyrim. Last weekend, however, my new Khajiit (a former slave on Vardenfell, who later earned his freedom fighting in the Arena) visited Solstheim for the first time. It was a very different experience. From the moment he stepped off the boat, he felt very uncomfortable, especially with the initial conversation with the official who greets you as you step off the boat. My Khajiit wanted to jsut do his business (he was there searching for a lost crossbow schematic) and get out of there as soon as possible. When he came across three ash spawn surrounding a Dunmer soldier, he had to watch for a few moments before deciding whether to intervene. He finally did help out the lone Dunmer defeat the ash spawn, although it was as much out of fear that he would be blamed if the guy died as any desire to help out a Dunmer soldier. He then agreed to help the Dunmer out with the problem of where the ash spawn were coming from, but only if he got paid to do it, and when the problem turned out to involve some nasty necromancy, my Khajiit high tailed it back to Skyrim, leaving the Dunmer soldier to deal with it, but not before dealing with most of the ash spawn at the fort and letting the Dunmer soldier know what he had found there. Once back in Skyrim, my Khajiit had no desire to return to Solstheim, although he will probably need to go back soon for some other quest.

What struck me about the whole thing was the emotional reaction I had during the conversation with the Dunmer official who greets you when the boat first lands. It was completely different from when I had been playing the Dunmer mage. Same thing when he came across the three ash spawn attacking the Dunmer soldier. Anyone else experience things differently when playing different characters?

I constantly have this happen to me, I'll bring up Solstheim as well since that's in recent memory. My Redoran guard always seems to have a strong reaction when someone threatens his homeland and he's always quick to protect anyone there in danger, he also goes out of the way to fight bandits and the like. Despite being his home he is an Orc and tends to be viewed differently, which causes him to work twice as hard to prove himself. He rushed towards the other Redoran guard who was under attack.

Now move to my Redguard merc, when he saw the guard being attacked sure he went to save him, not because he wanted to help, but because he wanted to get paid, he did not care about the problems in Solstheim, there was no emotional response from him, he simply wanted gold.
