Different Companion behavior while following?

Just a quick question to companion behavior while following: I took Piper with me for the first time (normally I do most quests and exploring alone). Before that I had Cait as companion, also did her quest.

Now - Piper seems much worse that Cait while following (running after) me. While Cait had the normal problems on stairs, elevators and so on, she mostly shows up quickly, and follows quite well over roads.

Piper in contrast seems to be always far behind. I am not sprinting, just normally running along roads, no problematic places. Despite that Piper is always far behind me. If we run along a road without obstacles (cars, trailers) she always falls far back, and if I look she is sprinting after me. Cait also had to sprint constantly to follow, but Piper is much worse.

One time (arriving along the road in Cambridge Police station) I used a small alley with a stair to reach the Cambridge Police station entrance, and she was not in sight. She seems to have tried a detour, because somehow the dumb pathfinding could not follow. I did not care and entered the Police Station, because this is a cell transition, and normally Companions are teleported to you if you enter or leave an interior cell. But Piper was not here with me in the cell. So I reloaded and had to walk slow, so that she could follow. I tried the same path again with her, and if one waits, she can follow, but only if she has the player in sight, so it seems.

All this never happened with Cait! She was with me even in Hub 360 and the skyscraqers in this area. She often could not follow, but was warped to me after a moment. Piper in contrast seems to be programmed to immediately starting to walk around and this way she seems to loose the path.

Am I imaging this or did you see this too?
