Different dialogue choices without stats

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 2:00 am

I guess now it will depend solely on your Race, Gender, Perks and maybe experience/past choices, right?
I don't think I'll be able to roleplay a dumb warrior now, this make nigoki sad.

I'm not whining about change (removing stats), it's just that I always considered important setting intelligence or charisma on a role-playing game, these ain't like weapons that we can change whenever we want.

It would be nice if we could pick initial attributes that wouldn't change during the game. They could affect your starting stats a bit, and then give you special dialogue options. That way you can still level up by just adding points to magicka, stamina, or health, and the attributes won't get in the way anymore.

sorry
My conflict is that for roleplay purposes, it is important to distinguish intelligent vs dumb characters, charismatic characters vs repulsive and etc...
If in past TES, Stats were there just for Magicka, HP and stamina, then they were poorly made to begin with.

Now without them existing at all, I don't see how the game will differentiate these natural attributes in dialogue. Maybe some with perks: you have some perks about destruction magic, then you can talk about it. But not really with intelligence.

It would be indeed nice, although it is contrary to the simplification that is going on with Skyrim. Maybe there should be some elegant way to implement this.

Don't forget about skills! They could be a factor in dialoge. Plus since the new 'attributes' include stamina, magic, and health? NPCs could still consider your "stupid" if you have low magicka. Who knows?

I wouldn't say that previous system was appropriate for roleplaying either. Basically, you were stupid unless you research magic.

Yes, FO was one of the best recent games that represented stats really well, but hey, this is NIRN, not earth, so maybe being smart brings you magicka. (poor excuse)

Well, I really preffer intelligence not being included in RPGs. I'll use my own intelligence after all and if I want to rolleplay a dumb character, the only thing that I need to do is make poor decisions when the quest let me do so.
