A different kind of project.

I have this really big problem with Skyrim. It's a fantastic open world that I love and have modded for roughly 544 hours in-game (and Pete Hines knows how many hours in the construction set). But in all the years that I have owned the game, I've never managed to finish it. Without fail, every time I start a playthrough, something has made me quit.

All it takes is one bug, a mod conflict, a mod update, an unsatisfying character build, and I'm back to square one. I sped through the Dark Brotherhood questline once, but that's it. So now I find myself in a spot where I've done so much stuff with Skyrim that I kind of want it off my hard disk. Three and a half years is enough. But I cannot bring myself to do that without at the very least finishing one, complete playthrough in a satisfactory manner.

I have tried and failed to do this so many times it's become something of an issue with me, so this week I sat down with a fellow TES fan in order to figure out this problem of mine (which is hardly mine alone). We came to the conclusion that the one thing that might get me to finish the game is some good old fashioned peer pressure. I considered Livestream at first, but nobody is going to watch weeks worth of video, especially from some starting streamer.

We're both literarily inclined, so we came to the conclusion a blog to chronologue the playthrough would be the best solution. Best of all, he volunteered to be my editor. How lovely is that?

Rules:

- NO QUITTING.

- Dead is Dead survivalist gameplay. If 544 hours haven't taught me how to survive in Skyrim, I don't know what can. I will truly give up on Skyrim if I do die.

- Games can be reloaded if some random bug ruins everything.

- No munchkin mods.

- Legendary difficulty, because screw it.

- All posts must be in character.

- Daily updates, as long as time permits it. The holiday season will soon be over, but I think I can squeeze out ten or so consistent posts.

- Between 200 - 1000 words per update, depending of the amount of events that actually takes place within the timespan of a day.

- At least one screenshot per update, to show that I have indeed made progress.

- All posts must be written in game, through http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48375/.

Themes:

- Journal style, with a mix of letter style writing. All entries are directed at a specific person.

- 'The reluctant Dragonborn' - avoiding stupid risks, berating NPCs that do.

- Survivalism (with a little help from Frostfall, iNeed and Wet and Cold).

- Old codgerism.

Read up on this elderly Dunmer dude at Mathyn's Journal on Wordpress (and please do berate me if it seems like I'm stalling): https://mathynarvel.wordpress.com/

If I find sufficient peer pressure interest to help me along, I may also open up some related social media accounts to make it easier to follow Mathyn's progress. Twitter updates should prove fun, at least.

Added a twitter account. Not much there yet, but it will be a fun change for me from writing long posts. https://twitter.com/Mathynsjournal
