Different race beginnings

Post » Thu Oct 07, 2010 4:44 am

Hello, my name is Sucra, and I'm here for a suggestion to Skyrim.

About the races
Assuming that in Skyrim, same races still exist. Imperials, Wood Elfs, Dark Elves, High Elves, Khajiit, Nords, Argonian, Bretons, and Redguards. It would be a good thing if all the races could have an unique starting story. I'm about to tell all the startings I have in my mind...

Nords
Since nords are strong and brave people, your Nord hero would start at a military camp. You have been assigned to eliminate a bandit camp troubling people. But nothing goes as planned...

The Story:
You go to sleep a day before the assault, but in the night, the bandits assault the camp. Your friend arrives to give you a sword and you take out the bandits. But most of the soldiers die, and you leave the camp. Soon you arrive in a big city, and the main quest begins along with an "Origin Quest" for finding out who gave up your camp to the bandits.

The Causes
Since the bandits killed all your friends, you haven't been very sociable (-15 to Personality). But because of this, you had more time for training (+10 to Strength and Endurance). Also, you can rebuild an army for you to help in the Origin Quest.

Imperials

And because Imperials are very socialized, they start in a rich family, which gets jailed by some unknown group.

The Story
It is a normal day, and you're returning to home with your brother from the city. Your family is all home, and you start the feast. But suddenly, guards raid the house and arrest your mother and father. You and your brother are about to be arrested as well, but you escape the guards. After running back to the city, some mercenary arms you with a shortsword and tells the quickest way to the prison. You will have to rescue your parents from the jail, and take them to your family's lodge. And then, the main quest begins.

The Causes
Since you had to work with people to save your parents, it is easier to get to know people. [+5 to Personality]. Also, you learned something on the way to the prison. (+5 to Agility and Lockpick) Also, you get an Origin Quest to find out who betrayed your family. And you can rebuild the family's old lodge to it's better side.

Argonians
You begin your journey in a shadow of a big city, particularly in slums. But when the guards arrest your friend for a crime he never did, it is time to sneak in to the city.

I will add the rest of the races later, but now, I'm off to sleep. This was Sucra.

Yeah a Dragon Age:Origins thing would be cool but I think most of the fans like how it is now.

Meh, something about that would just feel wrong in Elder Scrolls.

This is Bethesda we're talking about, they won't do detailed stories for each race, sorry.

Sorry, but it's already been confirmed that the game starts with the player being in jail. It would just be too much work, for the amount of benefit gained, for each race to have a different start from each other. They'll all start at the same spot.

Part of the fun (or at least tradition) is that everyone is a clean slate.

I really like how DAO did it, but I think the normal start for ES games works best here.

Those stories may make great mods though.

Well you have to admit, it is a pretty generic place to start. No matter what someone's background may be, everyone can end up there under the correct circumstances. It leaves the player free to make up any background story they want for their character, from being a hardened criminal to being framed for a crime they didn't commit.

These are Okay. But I like how Bethesda gave us the option of making our own Backstory. :P

Should just be as a Race Related Quest not as a beginning Quest

and You start in Jail not in a Military camp or Rich Family or Slums

Edit: and i loved the way you make your own Backstory but nice quests anyway

But just keep it as Related quest for later in Game a Man or Mer will walk to you and just give you that Race Related Quest

You could still make you're own backstory... it just wouldn't end with you being thrown in jail.

Tell all you like, but the game's opening is confirmed. Every character starts in the same place, and the same way, regardless of race, just like always.

(And the people who hate always starting as a prisoner hate it as usual.)

I don't think it would be too out of character for a future Elder Scrolls game to depict, depending on your character's race...a very brief sequence that shows their typical homeland etc...only for it to fade away and turn out to be a hallucination or fleeting memory they have while they are in prison/jail whatever.

As I think everyone else agrees, TES is all about creating your own character and giving them whatever backstory you like.

All are going to start the same:

You get nabbed going through the border, and before you know your getting your head chopped off. Sorry to burst your bubble kid.
