Different type of Elven Armors.

Post » Wed Sep 22, 2010 12:00 am

One thing I've always found odd is that all Elven weapons and armor have the same look to them. I'm not very versed in all
the lore but shouldn't the Altmer,Bosmer, and Dark elves be represented by different types? They all have different cultures
and this should be shown in my opinion. The Elven Armor we currently have looks much more Altmer in my opinion.Maybe
Bosmer Armor could be more earthy and rugged considering their lifestyle?

The reason for that is because it is based off of the Ayleids, whom were the precursors to the Altmer.

But have faith, there will be an armor set for each race!

I see Dunmer armor as being primarily Bonemould and Netch leather, rather than elven, and 'wild' Bosmer, I beleive, do not usually have any armor, or clothes for that matter... :whistling:

So I see Elven armor, as it is called, to be of primarily Aldmeris/Ayleid origin.

I think it's just Ayleid armor. Not sure why they called it Elven.

Maybe the same reason Dwemer armor is referred to as Dwarven?

As long as they give us a wide variety of weapons and armour that suits every race, I don't really think they need to label stuff like "this is a Dunmer cuirass" or "this is a Bosmer helmet".

I always took the Elven set with a pinch of salt.

Don't spread false info, because I'm 99.9% sure that there is no confirmed info on this at all.

Off Topic: Did anyone else notice Freddo wiped out every child thread from the forums? Eerie...

Even the advlt thread. What's wrong with discussing killing advlts?

To be honest, it is rather weird how the Ayleid (the "Elven" one, since it visible has the typically Ayleid avian design element) armor got plenty of coverage on those earlier screenshots and appearing once in the in-game trailer. I don't recall any historical lore mentioning that they were particularly abundant in the Skyrim region.

I'd like to see some new elven armour as in what they are now making - from lore it seems the elves are on the ascendancy and there is tension between mer and man so I assume they are back in their smithies making up some cool pauldrons and greaves.

I like the fact that all elven armors (inc. Orcish) follow the same trend. The same way I like to see human armors also follow the same fashioned look. Obviously I like to diversity within that look.

Human armors tend to stick to mined metal or the newer raw materials such as ebony & glass (look at the imperial dragon armor) whereas elven armors use ancient techniques of carefully constructed mixture of different materials such as bonemold & chittin etc.

a bit like European armors using metal plates compared to Oriental armors which uses a mixture of cloth, metal, bamboo & animal bone. The European armors are slightly stronger but no where near as light and agile.

I'm expecting Khajiit & Argonian armors to completely different again. I expect Khajiit to be Indian / Arabic looking built mostly around chain mail but I have no idea what Argonian armor will be like. Possible something along the lines of stitched together animal hides armors (various mammal leathers, dark brotherhood?, Dreugh). As the Argonians homeland is greatly water and argonians are equally at home living underwater I'm guessing their armor will be water proof.

I don't think the Elven armor is Ayleid. In the Knights of the Nine addon you see the Ayleid King and his soldiers, Their armor looks nothing like Elven armor.
I can appreciate that there may be a reson for this, but it would make sense to me that the Ayleid king would wear Elven armor if in fact it was Ayleid.

I don't see Ayleid armor a million miles away from elven armor. Just a top version of it.

I'll have to disagree with you there.
I think the armour worn by Umarill looks vastly different to the Elven and Orcish armour (Orcs are deformed Alter IIRC for anyone who is lost by this)

Maybe the same reason Dwemer armor is referred to as Dwarven?

It was called Elven armour pre-Morrowind.

I guess they didn't want people to have to think more than 5 seconds to know what an Aylied is. Same reason they refer to Dunmer as Dark Elves, etc.

Except it is not because of people. It's because in Nirn, Dunmer are commonly known as Dark Elves, Dwemer are known as dwarves and Ayleid are known as Heartland Elves (I think). Don't underestimate people, beaucse all of that is perfectly justifies, Lore-wise.

That makes perfect sense. If confusing.
