Different types of vampires?

Post » Wed Sep 14, 2011 3:33 am

I can admit, at first, I was really disappointed by the news that vampires were the same generic ones from Oblivion, but then I thought, what if you could get infected by either type?Vohlikar (spelling?) or Cyrodiil?Maybe there are also 2 types of werecreatures you could turn into (wolf and bear)? It just seems unlikely that Beth would throw this lore out the window. It could also be like how Beth only announced 4 factions, but there turned out to be more (Empire and rebels).

They said you can sneak up on people and svck their blood, with a neat animation, I'm assuming not while they're sleeping either. It would be nice if victims who are awake die from the bite, as to not run to the guards, and sleeping victims can live from bites to be just like personal blood banks. Perhaps they can even have a questline where you bite someone and they turn into a vampire, which you can then make a companion out of.

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess what the art director was saying is different than what Todd just said in the video. "feeding on people while they're sleeping" doesn't sound like too much of an upgrade from Oblivion's vampires. Here's to hoping we can at least see fangs on our characters.

we can't really judge the Skyrim vampires, as we know nothing about what they actually can do.
though morrowind's vampire clans and quests + nightly vampire activities could be REALLY awesome

I'd like to play as a vampire at one point or another in Skyrim, I just wish I wouldn't turn all old and ugly like in Oblivion. Since I work an hour or so in the editing part of your character, then it all goes to old mush after a vamp bite

Just because they "announced" 4 factions doesn't mean theres only going to be 4 factions, those are just the ones they told us about.

I thought Todd said there would be deeper levels of vampirism and the you could become more powerful vampire, but it would make you more venerable to the sun and things like that. That seem quite a big change from Oblivion Vampires.

The way Todd described it they are exactly like Oblivion's vampires. You feed to control your level of vampirism and sun damage gets worse as you get stronger (from not feeding).

OP: I really doubt they have more than one strain of vampirism.

It's going to be the same crap. I guess this confirms I will be making Unholy Darkness for Skyrim.

Bethesda ruined vampires in TES when they made oblivion. When vampires walk out into the sun their skin should start to boil and take massive damage.

Next thing you know the vampires are going to glitter in the sunlight...

Skyrim vamps sound the same as Oblivion's vamps.
but hopfully they'll be tweak and fleshed out more, and not identical to much.
and hopfully not as ugly, tho i dont mind maybe slight changes like eye color, darker eyes pallidness. maybe a hypothermic victim look :P

PS btw anyone think steve carell and todd sound simular to one another. not just alike but enough to mistake one for the other minus the vocal idiosyncrasies

I don't understand. I thought that, in the GI podcast, Todd stated BGS was working on improving Vampirism, before deciding whether or not to include it in Skyrim.

Why copy and paste OB's Vampirism?

And why in the [censored] does NOT feeding make Vampires stronger? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I confuse :brokencomputer:

They've never said they're Cyrodil vampires. They are very likely the ones from Skyrim. And even though there are more types of werecreatures, that doesn't make them playable. As far as I know, werewolves are the only ones caused by a disease. Meaning you can't be a werebear. Although it would be awesome to be more than one type of werecreature.

Probably sticking to some lore, but the only lore on the Volkinar clan is that they live under the ice and can grab unsuspecting victims THROUGH the ice... but I doubt we'll see that due to technical reasons (they would have to make breakable ice and animations clipping through stuff to pull that one off) they won't do it.

The way he described vampires seems identical to Oblivion's which everyone complained about. I'm surprised. Maybe Todd's description is too vague to jump to conclusions yet but it sound an aweful lot like Oblivion vamps.

As long as there is a clan of Volkihar vampires that we can join, I'll be happy. Hopefully you'll get a freezing breath spell, but the other abilities don't have to be in.

Why are so many of you taking this so literal to heart. He didn't really give out any details other than what you could freaking expect a vampire would be like. You have to feed to keep yourself under control and you hurt in the daylight. I would like to add to it that he said " a totally different game mode " for all we know there could be special quests and possibly even a faction that belongs to vampires. Who knows you could kind of tell he was trying to hold back information.

He was simply making it official that you can in fact be a vampire and that they aren't just creatures in the game. He wasn't wanting to spill the beans about everything there is to being a vampire.

But I'm pretty sure we all knew we would be able to become a vampire or they wouldn't have even bothered with the creatures really. So this isn't really exclusive information or rather it isn't that great of exclusive news for x-play.

At first my initial reaction was, "same as Oblivion lameness", but if they are making an announcement (and if they are trying not to spoil anything they reveal) they probably wouldn't make the vampire announcement unless they had some special things planned (things that weren't in Oblivion).

If the falmer were confirmed, which I did read (no link, sorry), then that shows Bethesda is trying to stick to the lore. That means the Volikhar (?) have a better chance of making an appearance.
