Difficulty reinstalling game without disk

Post » Sat Apr 02, 2011 6:10 am

Hey all,

Basically, my computer filled up with viruses and I ended up reformatting the disk and reinstalling windows. I backed-up several games onto an External Hard-drive, then copied them back into my computer's Program Files folder after the reformat. However, running Fallout.exe, fomm.exe or FalloutLauncher.exe now results in the launcher popping up with the option to "Install" the game (no other options, such as "run") and no way to tell it that it's already installed. I would usually just reinstall the game from the disk, but I have absolutely no idea where the disk is. There is a chance that it is at my grandparents' house, in which case it will be several months before I am able to retrieve it. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Buy the game off steam? There really is no legal way of installing the game without the disk.

I guess I'll just have to buy the disk again, or wait - Steam doesn't play well with mods. [censored] I hate computers.

Thanks anyway.

Not true, I have the Steam version and I run with quite a few mods including MMM, FOOK2 and DC Interiors. FOSE is also fully compatible.

It's only the D2D version that is limited in what mods can be used.

Yeah Steam even supports FOSE as I recall.

This is the reason why I keep my FO3 DVD in its case inside the Collector's Edition lunchbox, and keep that in a desk drawer :)

Steam version is OK for mods, just the D2D is the problem.

Heck you can buy Bioshock and Fallout3 on the same disk for $19 in the stores now.

I will close this so that no one reccomends something that I will have to ban them for.
