Difficulty Setting

Post » Mon May 02, 2011 12:54 am

What difficulty setting do you keep your game on? This is for any ES game that allows you to change the difficulty. Early on I usually keep the difficulty on default, but as I get into higher levels and enemies health rises into the ranks of the gods, I turn it down to about 25% for realism, so it only takes 3-4 hits to kill an enemy.

It depends, really. Generally I try to keep it on the default setting, as I do for most games, but sometimes, I will set it lower or higher if the game is getting too hard or two easy, that's what it's there for, after all. Right now in Morrowind I have it set to something like ten or something above default, as I felt that I was one-hit killing enemies too much. Low level enemies still don't have a chance against me, but higher level enemies at least become somewhat more satisfying kills (although it does also feel good to see enemies go down from one arrow.)

I keep the slider on easiest on my first playthrough of any game, after that i always go with split middle difficulty. I never change the difficulty mid-game, it ruins the idea that i was able to get stronger and beat enemies that i couldn't before.

In Oblivion, I dont change the difficulty slider (health slider), It doesnt make it harder, it just gives enemys ALOT more health and damage, just making it take a very long time to kill anything, which is just boring.

In all other games I jsut leave in on normal my first play through.

I keep it at normal, usually unless it becomes crazy hard (then I turn it down a little). Also I sometimes temporarily turn it down when I get stuck. One thing that does not = fun to me in any game is dieing over and over and over and over (so I use my resources to make sure I don't).

The thing about turning down the difficulty in TES games is you level up less because you swing your weapon less, use less magic, etc., so its most of the time not a good idea to turn the difficulty slider down.

Depends on the character
Warrior - keep it in the middle
Mage - turn it up as magic is generally more powerful than melee
Rogue - Turn it down. I like every backstab and stealth head shot being a kill, the way it should be

I like it either at the easiest or in between the middle and easiest.

for me, the way the difficulty slider changes how difficult the game is flawed. For me increasing the difficulty shouldn't change the amount of hits needed to kill stuff a massive amount (how realisitic is it when a guard still running around looking like a pinchushion?), it should mainly change how easy it is for you to die.

Usually this, however I've raised the difficulty a bit with my battlemage in morrowind.

I set it way below for realism, on my 100th playthrough I could care less about leveling. I just hate having to slash a bandit 15 times, A real sword-fight would never last that long unless both opponents were really skilled with defense and not very great with offense. Realism is what I've been trying to go for in TES games recently.

I keep it default for most of the time. But I did slide it to easiest when I had to babysit other characters and don't want them to die too easily.

I don't like how you can change the difficulty settings midgame. You should pick a level and stick to it.

When I had xbox 360, I turned the difficulty down. Enemies lvl with you became too powerful, and with no balance mod avaliable to consoles, let me to get the pc version of both Morrowind and Oblivion.

Yeah, and It didn't make it better that the artifacts would become weak, if a lowlevel character could retrieve one. Wayyy to ruin the fun.

As a general rule, I play either on easy or medium in most games. ES games belong to the medium/default group. I play games because I enjoy the gameplay, not the challenge. Although Ive enjoyed games like Halo on legendary and Moder Warfare on veteran etc, but they are exceptions.
