Difficulty: Very Hard+hardcoe mode

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 1:44 am

Maybe this has been posted in the past week or so, I couldn't find it.

I can use all of the tips and advice from experienced FNV players for this playthrough. I won't play for a few days because I want to collect as much information before I start this up.

Get your survival skill up and eat food whenever you have low health instead of using stimpacks, it's better to save those for when you really need them. That's all I got :)

Hotkey stimpacks
Get a sniper, an automatic gun and some form of rifle with a decent firing speed.
Use the Speech skill, some battles are best left not fought if you want to live.
Take drugs.
Kill a bear.

Well, you came to the right place. Most of us are still here just to argue & debate what all we learned, in a sense.

Well, I'll give you my two cents.

There are many different ways to go into this. Some people prefer using heavy armour with a light machine gun or a mini-gun to level the playing field as quickly as possible. Others, like my self, prefer to go off & use sneaking & rifles together. Either way, there are many different ways to do this. But always go with what you enjoy more, you are going to die a lot if your just coming into this.

I'll go with my route. I prefer using light armour, sneak, explosives, rifles, & full automatic weapons. You do not require as many stims or drugs to re ensure your success every time, just a plan. Setting up a mine field with very few mines can help you quite a bit as a back up plan. Almost dead? Run back to your planned area to give them a surprise. Or my favorite, lay a mine field for them to go through as they attempt to find you.

Now always carry a few select weapons, two to three at least, for you will want to not always be carrying the entire armory with you at all times. Any item that did not have weight before will have weight now. How can you solve this to carry around the same amount of ammunition, but times two to equal the same amount as before you might ask yourself is quite simple. Barter, it is a key for one perk you will find to be quite lovely. Pack Rat, only requires a barter level of 70 & will but the weight in half for any item under the weight of two. This will save your day for lasting longer in the waste if you use any weapon that uses some form of ammunition.

hardcoe is more of an annoyance in my opinion, but none the less it is a challenge. If you get yourself to a simple survival skill or 30 or 50, you will easily be able to live off wild life that you may hunt down, or use plants that you will gather. This also assist you in the medical department, as there are healing items.

Well, that is my two cents. Good luck, if you love challenges you will love this for quite a while.

WOW i love hardcoe mode and have always used it in New Vegas. Though i kinda forgot there was a difficulty :D thanks ima try that, maybe the deathclaws will be able to take me down this time :D

As for help about to survive, well dont rush to the strip, play it easy, gather enough money to upgrade and get great guns, keep an eye on ur ammo and what kinda ammo ur using and maybe having a follower might help. and never forget to scavenge (or prospect whatever u wanna call it) for loot is alot in the Mojave.

Wish i could send u some caps to help you (150256 caps plus alot of [censored] on display in my bases)

hardcoe mode is nothing to worry about, it's just an inventory management issue. Stick to two or three weapons that you really like and do not try to tote around vast quantities of ammo for waepons you don't use. Alternatively, get a follower and get them to carry stuff for you.

I had a Survival skill of 9 and the only thing I made at a campfire was the tutorial healing powder, and the only time I ever really noticed hardcoe mode was in Dead Money, which is a special case as you are constantly taking health damage there.

Thanks for the tips, though I came across this problem. Getting my health back seems difficult at times, is the only way to get HP back by consuming items? I tried sleeping and to my dismay it didn't work. Also I see myself working around 500+ hours in this playthrough.

When hardcoe is on, healing items will take time to heal you.

I think it only works with a bed you own/rent, at least that's how it is for me on normal/hardcoe.

in hardcoe beds (unless it is your owned bed, i.e. your bed in the lucky 38 or novac) don't do anything but recover your sleep meter. all healing items heal over time, not instant. doctor's bag's, a doctor, or your owned bed, are the only things that will heal broken limbs. ammo and other miscellaneous items now have weight. healing and ammo weight are why i play hardcoe...it's like cheating otherwise.

perks: pack rat, jury rigging, both levels of toughness, hand loader (if guns), anything that increases critical hit chance, and, obviously, associated weapon perks dependant on your build. i always take these. to me, these are essential perks.

combat: just about everything can kill you until level 15 or so (it is easily possible to die at the hands of geckos at goodsprings source). after level 20 you will really only worry about hit squads, deathclaws, and packs of cazadores. keep deathclaws at distance at all costs no matter what level. if they are close enough to hit you, you are already dead. abuse terrain if need be.

save often. keep a rotation of at least 5 save files. i keep anywhere from 10-20 save files per character.

weapons: 1 for range, 1 for close quarters, 1 for mid range, 1 for when it absolutely must die. you must plan how long you're going to be away from base and carry enough ammo, but not too much where you can't loot. try to combine weapons with the same ammo type if you don't yet have a feel for how much ammo you should carry for each weapon.

use stims/healing items in battle before you need them. if you have chems to spare, use those too in tough battles.

if you're not sure about a situation, save and take it slow.

Well i kinda always glitch to get them all, but normally u can only have one humanoid follower and one non humanoid.

Bone, lydia and Raul are my favourite. Oh and if ur planning on being friends with the NCR (GOOD IDEA) then u can get a NCR radio thingy and call in NCR soldier or ranger for backup everyday (can only have one of each)

I am not necessarily a big fan of VH and HM but what I do to add difficulty is 1) no vats ever 2) there is a mod that you can use to slow level. I use the 50% setting which helps to keep you from getting too far ahead of the bad guys. Yes, I know they level with you but you'd be surprised at how much this helps keep some balance and reduce the superman factor. 3) I'll typically go from H to VH at level 5 when I no longer have to worry about running out of ammo.
