dike Winters, the former World War II commander whose war story was told in the book and miniseries “Band of Brothers,” has died...

...When people asked him if he was a hero, he liked to answer the way his World War II buddy, Mike Ranney, did.

“No,” Ranney said. “But I served in a company of heroes.” That became the tag line for the miniseries.
"

A great one has passed. There are many more out there, but there numbers are dropping. If you get a chance, say thank you to those you see.

A great deal of thanks and prayers to Major Winters and his family. Being a fan of the series, and reading up on him and his fellow soldiers, this is quite the downer for me. He was a great man, a great leader, and a true hero.

Yeah, it's so sad that so many of the greatest generation are coming to the end of their lives....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Speirs, (who, if you remember Band of Brothers, ran trough a German occupied town in order to relay the plan of attack a company on the other side, and then ran all the way back trough the same town, and he was the commanding officer!!!) one of the big heroes of WW2 and the Korean war, died in 2007.

We must hear the stories they have to say and honor the incredible sacrifices they made to save the world from genocide, tyranny and destruction.

I remember the story I heard first hand of the epic naval battles of Canadian convoys (back when the US still had it's head up it's ass and Canada alone had to break the naval and aerial blockade around the UK every day to give it the supplies that allowed it to survive for the length of the war) against the ''Wolf packs'' of the Kriegsmarine in the St-Laurant river right in front of our town and of the broken hulls of the sunken ships being brought to shore in my town's port in order for them to be salvaged for more ships and tanks. :gun:

Those are the kind of stories that need to be remembered and told when the greatest generation will be a thing of the past!

loved the tv series and i still watch it whenever its on, even though ive seen it literally like 20 times now. its getting to the point of me knowing the next line of dialogue like i used to do with the star wars trilogy (the good ones not the crappy ones).

sadly that generation literally was one of our best generations and i just dont think we will see that again for some time .............if ever.

Oh man. I suppose this will be an eventuality, right up to when it's our turn to drop like flies.

May he rest in peace. From what I know of him, he deserves nothing but the best ever-lasting rest. And also a huge fan of the Band of Brother series.
