Direct X 9c

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 9:12 am

I am surprised to see that Crysis 2 is running on Direct X 9 C. This is a surprise since Direct X is at 11 now. What do people think about this?

DX9 is kinda like the gold standard. It will always be supported because Windows XP still has a huge user base.

Crysis 2 looks absolutely amazing! And its only DX9! Yes the textures could have been sharper but who the hell stops in the single player campaign and looks at all the textures from up close!? I don't have time to bother about some irrelevant blurry textures (mind you not all textures have this effect) I am far more interested in kicking some alien ass!

It's nothing to do with XP. It's the Xbox.

Always? 08/04/2014 is the "Extended Support End Date". XP support should end sooner IMO. PC games would look so much better if they were built for DX11 exclusively.

DX9c was release in 2002 from my memory, I may be wrong on that.
Xbox uses dx9c and many developers focus on dx9 rather than dx10/11, with good reason.

Only problem with this is with the next gen of consoles comming very soon I think focusing on dx9 right now on a new engine is a waste and instead should have focused on the new dx11 tec in order to have a head start for the next gen of consoles. Which the like of microsoft are allready developing for and rumor has it its dx11.

XBox, why do you say that?

The current PC version is nothing more then a port from Xbox 360. This is the reason why you don't have advanced graphics options, why it only has DX9, why you get the weird Eye logo for 15sec when you launch the game, why you can't map mutiple keys to the same command (IE, crouch be both C and L-CTRL), and why it says "Press Start to Begin"...

DX10 = Overated POS, you might tell me to go play crysis 1 with dx9 and realise you cant go to max settings, but you would be wrong. Edit a .cfg a little and you can make crysis 1 run at higher fps with the same graphics as the dx10 highest settings. DX11 is nice but they need to actually use its features (like tesselation), otherwise it's just dx9 with lower fps and nothing new.

Overall I don't see why so many people are annoyed that we don't get dx11 the thing people should be more pissed off about is not getting sandbox 3.
