Directional sounds?

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 1:34 pm

I've been playing FPS games since duke3d and quake1 and for most of the games i've played i've always used a headset so i could tell where gun shots and footsteps were coming from. Nearly every game even since CS1.6 forever ago has allowed me to tell almost exactly where sounds were coming from. From footsteps, reloads, jumps and of course bullets but for the life of me I can't seem to really tell where **** is coming from in crysis2.

I can barely hear if the sound is coming from my left or my right and I sure as hell can't tell front left from back left and vice versa. I have a headset with an expander on it too and every other game I play with the headset has excellent sound recognition.

So maybe i'm just trippin, it might just be me. But if anyone else has noticed this I'd like to know i'm not the only one. I may as well just be playing with speakers :/

Thank god it's not just me, I thought I might have started going crazy. I wear a set of TB's when I play and I can tell where something is coming from in games like Halo, CoD, L4D2, etc., but this game it sounds like someone is yelling from inside of the wall next to me.

Sometimes I'll go and investigate and 9 times out of 10, there's no one there. Hell, sometimes it gets me killed (RAWR!).

Maybe Crytek needs to patch the audio sounds again in MP.

Directional sounds are almost non-existent, very difficult to pinpoint location. When I hear footsteps and because I know the maps, I can infer (guess) where they enemy may be. This shouldn't be the case but the same can be said of most they've done.

This is almost certainly the first FPS i've played where I can't pinpoint sounds almost perfectly. Usually it takes 2-3 hours of play time for me to start to get used to locating the sounds... for instance someone shooting you from back left should always sound like back left..... so once you get used to that direction, you're good. But when back left sounds the same as back right or front right...... sound becomes pretty much useless. I also can't tell if footsteps are 2 feet behind me or 20 feet away behind two cars and a building

Lol I know, I keep getting confused whether footsteps are my own or other players as well, my footsteps seem to come from all directions. Sometimes I stand still for a moment just to check.

I would use Covert Ops but not worth losing Stealth Enhance, not prepared to recharge after running every 15m, not my idea of entertainment. That's what I buy games for, to have fun.

i have covert ops 3, the first module i leveled for stealth and it's pretty useless. When i can't tell where sounds are coming from there's really no point in them being louder and if this is a problem all players are having then my footsteps being loud isn't going to help anyone out too much anyways.

Or maybe you should all stop being so dependent on your head sets and start using your eyes and ears to improve your sense of awareness which is what the rest of us do. just a suggestion

I agree...the directional sounds are a mess.

There's one map in multiplayer...can't remember the name...it's the one with the light house and the building opposite side. When i snipe from the building opposite the light house, i keep hearing people screaming in pain to the left of me. I look and there's no one there. i use 5.1 headphones too.
The entire sound quality of this game is messed up. The bass sounds connected to explosions and heavy gun fire is over the top and becomes distorted.
And then there's that loud looping pre-match music.

Are you mentally retarded, I'm currently training to help the mentally handicapped like you.

Haven't you just contradicted yourself? You said use your "eyes and ears". Unfortunately, using our ears is not an option when the footsteps make no sense and you don't know where they are or if they your own, teammates or enemies. I would have thought the nano-suit would have been able to differentiate as I can tell what direction footsteps are coming from in real-life with my ears alone. Funnily enough I don't have a nano-suit 2.0 I can just wear when I'm out and about doing my normal everyday activities but if I did then I wouldn't expect sounds to be worse.

However, eyesight is only any good if they are within your field of vision, even if they are then you cannot 100% always catch people in stealth.

So since my eyes are not always 100% reliable, I rely on hearing but that's no good either.

Troll fail.
