Directions are in... i think

I'm VERY pleased that directions are in :D

I believe in, and hope for, this being true.

It can be fun to drudge through the wilderness of a game, but I don't like having to constantly jump between the game screen and a damn journal to fumble through the pages to find the relevant journal entry to read some cryptic message that says "When you leave town going south, go over 2 bridges then take the road to the east and cross another bridge, then go north up a passage to find the entrance to the dungeon."

The magic "know-all' quest markers were much better than the navigation "system" of Morrowind.

Just sayin'.

It's a QUEST. It's not supposed to be an easy thing to achieve.

you know how in Morrowind you could bring up your map while paused, then leave it up while playing? I think you should have been able to do that with your journal, just resize the window and put in the bottom of your screen somewhere so it's showing the relevant directions and Bob is your Uncle. No constant switching :)

No offence, but those were the directions of the first quest of the main quest in Morrowind. They were actually incredibly specific and detailed. Theres no ambiguity or crypticness about them.

A number of people really did not appreciate those "know-all" quest markers though. As has been said, game playing you. I remember when playing Morrowind my mates and I would compete with each other to see who had completed such and such a quest by themselves and who was stuck. We never EVER had that competition with Oblivion.

And before you say "It's a game, you're not supposed to get stuck", please. It's part of the game. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose, and that's all part of the game.

Sounds very babied

And not being able to get any sense of achievement out of the game because you could never have failed isn't?

Maybe this means that the quest marker can be turned off? That would bee SWEET! :celebration:
Now i can get the satisfaction of finding the spots myself like in Morrowind, but not having to go into the construction set when i fail and give up.
(This was the days before i got online, now i can just go into the WIKI to find my way obviously)

According to Xbox360world, directions are in. In thier demo they reported that after accepting the quest to find the dragon claw. It says:

"Camilla leads you to thr edge of town, pointing out landmarks and talking the whole time. These walk-and-talks are new too, a far smoother way of delivering exposition."

I'm not sure what this means, but to it's kinda of saying that she tells you what way to go, and this is a new way of how to get somewhere, instead of the compass pointing you.

What do you think?

I think that the girl was giving a tour of the village....

For example..

"So here is our well, It was dug by Thorrim and Snorri when the village was first settled, oh..and here is where the Mule got it's foot stuck and would not be moved for three days...Over there is Hilda's house...watch out for her, she is an outrageous gossip...This is the village idiot Nels, he bites if you startle him...Now we are coming up to the bridge...the stonework is very particular to our region, you see where the workers have carved their names into the stones...it's very interesting, here is my Grandfathers mark here....Of course here is the Tavern, actually lets just go in for a moment and meet the owner, the Barmaid is a friend of mine....."

Many hours pass....Two drunken figures step out into the cool night air....

"So to continue our tour....here is the edge of town, this is as far as I go....Just head toward that mountain....oh, and watch for giant spiders...."

Thats what I think.

Well, I think it gives walking a whole new purpose. In other games, and even older ES games like... well, every ES game... walking was pointless, there was no need of it at all, only running mattered (except a bit for Morrowind where walking let you regenerate fatigue, but that's another case).

I like to think that I will actually walk and talk with NPCs, haven't seen it in a game before, sounds VERY interesting.

How can people be against this? It's more realistic to have someone show you where to go than to have a marker magically show up on your map.

Well ability to discover quest target by self is very good, NPC thats give us direction or just mark area not target completely is much better then magical GPRS compass with exact coordinates of the quest target.

I like morrowind's style of seemingly hand-written directions as well. However, I've recently been playing Witcher 2, and sometimes with some of the quests there is absolutely no direction as to where to go, other than "outside the city" which is beyond vague. Took me forever to find all those bloody nekker nests. So while I'm against the hand-holding in Oblivion, there can be an opposite to that as well with not having enough direction.
