DirectX 11 in Skyrim is in/out?

Post » Sat May 21, 2011 2:45 pm

I have been playing Shogun 2 Total War since last week, and the gameplay is very, very good but the game does not support directX 11 (so, no AA too) yet.

This has raised quite a stir in official and unofficial Total War forums, because there are many people who believes that feature should have been implemented from the very beginning of the game, since DirectX 11 it comes with Windows 7 in 2009... However, the company that makes the game promised a patch to resolve this situation soon and said that just not implemented early on in the game because they wanted to do more testings.

I wonder if Skyrim comes with DirectX 11 or not because, without anti-aliasing, Shogun 2 Total War seems... Well, not very good graphics... (hard to explain since english is not my native language, sorry... )

Give me your opinions on implementing DirectX 11 in Skyrim. Thanks! :tops:

You know you have to vote in every category to vote, right? So I was forced to vote "no" on the question "If your current GPU does not support DirectX 11 you will buy a new GPU with support DirectX 11 until 11-11-11?"

GTX 260... unfortunately doesn't support DX11 :(. But it's still a pretty solid graphics card, despite being outdated now.
So I'd buy a new comp if Skyrim supports DX11, which I would look forward to.

I hope Skyrim will come with DX11, mainly because of better performance, it looks a bit better and because of many more possibilies for those who can to make the game look very beautiful and stunning.
But if we look at the graphics-monster Crysis 2, they have only DX9 by default. Although DX11 will later be implemented by a patch.

So if Skyrim doesn't come with DX11 from the start, I think Betehsda should do the same and add a patch later to support it.

No problem. I re-voted. I really hope this has PhysX support as well, though I don't think it's likely.

There's no option for: Does your OS support DirectX 11...
My GPU is a Geforce GTX 460, but my OS is Windows XP. So if the question is "Will you buy a new OS just for Skyrim?", the answer is no, unless the DX11 graphics will be MUCH better than DX9. But I doubt they would be, looking at the Dragon Age 2 screenshots. Meh....

I'm sorry, the poll only allows five questions, and i try to choose only related with GPU's... I'm going to reformulate the poll for you, ok? Thanks!

Who doesn't like progress?

(On a side note. Games since 2006 or so, looks really good with max settings. I'm not crying either way.)

I got my windows 7 for free. I got five windows 7 licenses in my "backpack" ready to use in the future as well.

because todd said he wanted the games to look as good on all 3 platforms except for higher textures and resolutions on the pc.

I personally don't care if it supports DX11, I would like to see 3 monitor support out of the box, as that is the main reason I bought my Radeon 6950.

Dragon Age 2 is a horrible example because it's a straight console game. DX11 does nothing for it. look at Metro 2033 or Call of Pripyat to actually see tessellation and contact shadows and all that neato stuff at work.

that said - i personally believe PhysX is more important than DirectX 11, but i don't really care either way. certainly the game would BENEFIT from supporting DX11 technology, if only for optimization purposes, but the potential gains aren't enough to make me really ENTHUSIASTIC about it, especially since tessellation requires effort and if they haven't already DESIGNED THE GAME with that in mind it's not worth the trouble of adding it so close to release and not putting work into something more graphically important (like cool lighting things).

also congrats on actually making a somewhat interesting poll that's more than anything else IMPARTIAL. most polls up in this are like DO YOU WANT THIS? YES THE GAME svckS WITHOUT IT / NO COS IM A CONSOLEBABY.

Just imagining skyrim with the lighting of either of those is enough to make me squee in delight. And I don't squee.

DX 9 is starting to fade out of games today, so having DX11 as an option would be a smart decision too add in Skyrim. I certainly will upgrade my rig this summer to DX11 no matter what so i can play other upcoming games on the highest graphics possible if Skyrim does support DX11 great it will look beautiful if not won't loose much sleep and will still look good.

i would squee harder than you and i don't even know what a squee is.

shadows at ALL are a good enough first step. sunshafts would be delightful, and i'd like to expect that they'd be in, but i'm realistic enough to know they might not be, and i wouldn't be that disappointed. Oblivion had really nice dynamic torch/fire shadows for creatures and characters that would actually dance around beautifully, and the tree canopy shadows were pre-rendered but still looked really good at the right settings. Oblivion's HDR was really really overbearing and terrible but Fallout 3's cut back on it a lot and made it look really good. i'm hoping Skyrim has better eye adaptation, though - STALKER's spoiled me.

Bethesda KNOWS how to do lighting. it's mostly just a matter of architecture at this point. even if shadows are fairly basic at launch, they'll be better than they are on consoles, which means they'll be scalable, which means modders will get to turn that [censored] into gold.

No I'm not. I already have this PC, no reason wasting money downgrading to a 360. :-) As for staying behind, right now I'm playing the brand new game Dead Space 2, 1080p, 100+ fps, and I'm seeing exactly the same picture as someone on Windows 7. I expect the same thing will happen with Skyrim.
I'm not saying I will NEVER get rid of XP, I WANT better looking games. But as long as DX11 looks almost exactly the same as DX9 with only a few minor enhancements, getting Windows 7 would be wasting money as well.
