DirectX 10/11 on PC

DX11 because my computer will make the game become god with DX11

You said in another topic you're running two GTX 285's in SLI... GTX 285 doesn't support DirectX 11. Just sayin'.

He could run compute shader based effects. Just not tessellation.

Maybe he plans on upgrading soon?

I know this game will become god on my computer, with its 12GB of RAM, 4-core processor running at 3.6ghz, and a GTX 580. I may even get another GTX 580 so I can SLI the hell out of Skyrim.

Because it's cheaper and saves money?
I just watched the video. The only identifiable OS was on a PC running a copy of Windows from the NT 3.5 or Windows 3.1 era.

And running XP would not save money in all probability. The loss of productivity would more than equal the cost of licensing.

The only way any of them are running XP is if there is a specific software they need that was never updated for Vista or Win 7. Or as a testing bed.

In my opinion, of course.

I do not want a DX11 exclusive but I do want everyone's experience to be the best it can be for their hardware.

If Lost Planet 2, Dirt 2, Metro 2033 and other games can run both DX9 and DX11 there is absolutely no reason Skyrim can not!

Frankly, I'll be pissed if it's not included. (Wont stop me from buying it but it will disappoint me greatly!) As I said elsewhere, makes no sense to me to roll out what "sounds" to be all new tech (bling) and leave DX11 features out completely.

The thought of good (even if liberally used) tessellation support in Skyrim makes me squeal like a school girl.........I'm a 39 year old man.

I'm not trying to defend the fact that they might, I'm just stating why they may think it's a good idea.

As stated, I'd love to see the game have full support for DX10 and DX11.

I just have a gut feeling that this isn't the case, but I really hope this feeling is wrong.

SLI....enough said. However, I wasn't aware it doesn't support DX11, I'll have to research that hmm...

Edit: Uggh, looks like I either have to change to an ATI graphics card to play DX11 or I have to wait for a nvidia mobile graphics card to come out and upgrade....

I would be suprised if this new engine does not support dx 10/11. It would hamper furutre games and reduce the shelf life of the engine. The new screeenshot looks very pretty and I would be suprised if it did not use DX11.

The only reason not to support direct X10/11 support is ignorance on the benefits of them. Direct X 10 games don't automatically lock out direct X9 and if Beth does cheap out and just use Direct X9 it would make Skyrim look terrible in comparison to any other game, rpg or not.

I think A lot of people would be disappointed if they didn't... I would be, considering this is a brand new engine why would they dumb it down to DX9- future uses practically eliminated. unless it's a console specific engine.

Cutting edge you say? The game will only support DX12 (so they got enough time for bugfixing between release and when anybody can play it at all).

Yes, it definitely should have support for DirectX 10/11. Tessellation and all that jazz ftw.

I'm gonna randomly say no, because denying people advantage with absolutely no downside is amusing to both me and game developers.

I voted no, just because the way the post is worded. Is it only DX 10/11 support? For that I say no. If it's DX9 and DX 10/11 support for the option of one or the other, then I would say yes.

That is one thing that Civ V did right. People with old machines or minimum specs can still play Civ V while others with betters systems can have DX 10/11 if they want. Sadly it seems
people trying to use DX10/11 have the most problems. Hopefully this will not be the case for Skyrim.

So....you guys have inspired me to upgrade my computer even more even though my computer now could handle any game right now with highest detail, I need to go a step further and make it where I can play DX 11 and just over kill games. So I have ordered 2x 256GB Solid State drives to replace my 1 TB Raid 0, 16GB DDR3 to replace my 8 GB DDR3 and 1.5 GB GDDR5 Nvidia Geforce GTX 460M. I love you guys :hugs:

So for the 1500 dollars I just spent, I can play Skyrim at the same time I'm playing Crysis 2 on highest settings

Considering they didn't even take the time to quickly format a simple PC UI for Oblivion and Fallout3, something that even EA devs do....

All signs point to not happening.

If you watch the video of the tour of Bethesda Softworks, and look at the desktop UI of the people working on the levels, it looks like Windows XP.

So, that doesn't mean the game won't support DX 10/11

I'd like the game to make optional use of dx10&11 features but not to require a dx10/11 capable machine just to run.
Actually it would be better if Bethesda could do the opposite and enable dx10 and 11 features at people who have xp.
Many gamers have dx10 or 11 capable graphics cards, but there is a huge amount of people still using xp.
It is possible and modders enabled dx10 features to be enabled on Winows XP at Crysis.
Microsoft says 60% of Microsoft PCs still have Windows xp,and it's a big demographic to left out.
I know many people who have really modern computers regarding hardware, but they use old xp because they don't want to pay 350 euros just for an O.S. change.

The nVidia 400m mobile series supports DX11

edit: Why do you need a mobile card when it sounds like you have a regular desktop system?

I'd like that. Features like Geometry Instancing 2.0 and Tessellation would allow things like BIG battles to be done easily... :(

I could see DX 10, but 11 is still experimental and most people do not have video cards supporting it.
