Directx11 100% confirmed by Todd.

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 6:39 pm

IGN: Will the PC version support DirectX 11?

Todd Howard: Yes, but I guess the real question here is do we take advantage of DX11's big new features and the answer is 'not specifically'. Our graphics work centers around doing things that will look the same regardless of platform, and sometimes that implementation will be different on the 360, PS3, and PC.

I'm getting my copy on the PS3, as I doubt that my laptop would be able to run Skyrim. But, I still think that they should take full advantage of the PC and make it look as good as possible. I don't see why you guys should suffer due to the 360's and PS3's limitations.

wow, april fools, or just a miracle has happened :celebration: ?

If the engine is totally DX11-enabled and the modders can take advantage of it, we'll see monstruously awesome things.

EDIT: And if Beth dissapoint us PC users a-la-Crytek, I'm going to cast a Dragon Shout right at their offices. The most painful one :D

It's a good thing, because you'd look rather foolish.

The thread I linked to has been discussing DX11 and it's inclusion in the game and one other DX11 thread has already been locked, with a link to that same thread.

No one is fully in the right here. You're right that no one should be laughed at, but on the same token it's true that the other was a speculation thread, and this one outright starts with a confirmation.

If this is to be locked, the first post of the linked thread should be edited to reflect that it's confirmed.

Like I said, this is not the first "dx11 confirmed" thread today. The last one was locked with a link to the same thread I linked to.

anyway, yes its another thread, but what do you expect, he didnt update his post with confirmation.

what do you guys think about this, he says the inclusion is more selective. im guessing water is first, so the coasts will look amazing. and also i can guess at archetecture, weapons and armor, and maybe some geography. AND IM GOOD WITH ALL OF THAT...actually i wouldnt want too much tesselation, it sometimes makes objects seem distorted, just like in the heaven benchmark..the dragons scales do too much..[and yes i FINALLY have a computer that can max out unigine XD]

Okay, I guess I was wrong to be sure that the game would not use Direct X 11 at all, unless this is some sort of April Fools joke, still, the way the answer is worded, it doesn't actually look like the game will really do anything extremely impressive with Direct X 11 enabled, as he says their focus is on making the game look more or less the same on each platform, therefore, I could see Direct X 11 being used to do some things more efficiently than could be done with older technology, but I don't see it completely transforming the look of the game.

Can you levitate in Skyrim?
Todd Howard: Another DLC. Three hundred dollars.

So basically, no. I wonder how much is the spear DLC.

This isn't confirmation of anything but DX11 compatibility/support. Meaning you won't have to downgrade to DX9 to play Skyrim if you're running 11...

Doesn't confirm or deny the use of the new features that make DX11 different from DX9 or 10.

no, you made yourself very clear, i got that. i just dont understand why you are still here. talk about the post not the reason for posting, if a MOD has inclination to lock THIS thread then there is nothing stopping him. if your not here to talk about it then leave. go somewhere else and complain about the million accidental repeat posts. and until then ill be here ready to converse with people on the ecstatic news of DX11s inclusion untill our party gets crashed by a moderator. :foodndrink:

it doesnt do that anyway. only in high doses.
i expect it to be like most games with its addition. water, mesh cleaning, and slightly higher detail.

[edit/ sorry, im thinking about tesselation too much, thats not confirmed, its just my hopes. and when i say cleaner i simply mean more geometry=cleaner look]

So? They've created a new game engine that they likely aren't going to just throw away after Skyrim and Fallout 4 may very possibly be an early title for next-generation consoles. I think it would have been expected that Bethesda's new engine would prepare for the future a bit by supporting DX11. That doesn't mean the game will feature what DX11 allows... especially considering Todd's specific comments.

You couldn't be a little more pessimistic, couldn't you?

There's nothing like "having to downgrade" anything. If you use Vista/7, you already have DX up to 11 support (if your card supports it).

And Skyrim being DX11 are already nice news. I doubt Bethesda will spend development time implementing it's support just to have it as decoration. They must have any purpose for it, either for them to work with DX11 (sooner or later), or modders to take profit of it.

I don't know, personally when I read a line that says "Looks the same on all platforms" that pretty much throws full DX11 enabled splendor out the window.

And while you may say that's pessimistic, come back here on launch day and read the 150 posts that say "WTF TODD LIED THIS DOZ NOT USE DIRECTX11!!!!!"

i doubt he would just say that without thinking, he worded that very carefully but he DID confirm it. and it doesnt really need ALL the features, im good with just the support as i'm sure it was meant for the CK and not completely for the game, i expect the game to use a bit of tessellation but not too much. and the rest will be up to the modders.
