Hey guys, ive just built a new pc and downloaded steam to get oblivion, i downloaded everything and double clicked in anticipation, but a pop up box saying you need the latest direct x to play on this software, im on direct x 9, but when i try to update via the microsoft website , the installation doesnt work, any ideas?

Have you tried to run the exe in safe mode?

Bear with me here, Haz, since I'm not really sure how the steam version works.

Post a dxdiag report, it sounds like another issue.
