Dirty great pink LOD Castle walls

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:45 am

Hi. I have an large open city in a new worldspace, surround by a forest on two sides and the ocean on the other.

I just used TES4qLOD to generate some VWD walls and while it works well, the furthest walls away from me are a lurid pink, or sometimes other nice colors. To make the situation worse the land is not visible at the same distance, so I have nice pink castle walls floating in the distance!

What did I do wrong this time (I have the right mod file loaded up with no other mods at all), and how do I get the land to be visible from a distance?

Cheers

When something is pink means that you are missing a texture. When something is black means that you have a missing normal map. I'm not sure why TES4qLOD would cause you to appear to have missing textures, however.

Thanks JTH. No, I cant understand it either. I guessed that something is wrong with the textures, but I don't know what. My walls have 'Visible when distant' checked, (indeed most of the buildings too, since its an open city) and Iv had no problems like this before, even on the same mod while testing. I cleared out all the old textures before I put in new ones etc.

This morning I'll run TES4qLOD through again and rebuild the whole lot and see what happens - I sure hope this isnt goig to be a major problem though, there's a lot of work in that worldspace and city and Id not like to have to start again!

Well, Iv read as much as I can find about big pink things as distant objects, but nothing seems to have any effect. Iv tried half a dozen ways to generate using TES4qLOD (which is thankfully very quick), but none of them have made any difference (Testing with and without HDR).

I read the Visible When Distant Tutorial on the Wiki, where it says..
Note that many vanilla objects, even buildings, do not have a "_far" model, and in these cases you should make simplified "_far" nif versions

..however, I am using vanilla objects for everything at the moment and a quick look with BSA Commander shows that there are far_nif files for the castle walls and towers that I am using, and yet these seem to be the ones causing most of the problem from within and without of the city (Not that Iv tested much beyond the city, since there is little point while the walls are all pink!).

I am tearing at my hair right now over this (and I don't have much!). Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Okay, so I made notes of the settings I tried to no avail, but finally one of the settings that I repeated without realizing suddenly worked!

However, my castle walls are now visible and not pink, but the buildings inside the city do not show up until the player is quite close and the trees in the forst are the same - some of them can be seen from a distance, while the vast majority pop into place as you get nearer to them. Its worth noting that ALL of the trees have been generated in a region - one region can be seen from a distance, while the other cannot.

Any ideas anyone?
