Dirty Mod: Five Blind Mice (needs patch)

Post » Sat Mar 26, 2011 9:53 am

oh sorry, slipped my mind, I will go and see if there is someone I can contact right now.

EDIT:
Well I was hoping the readme of the file would show me some place to contact them, but, no.
I went to the TESNexus download page and mailed the uploader there, but there are 2 problems I am concerned with by doing that
1) the person is just an uploader, not an author
2) the person does not check their mail, or go to TESNexus anymore

I have sent an email to the project lead. Will see if I get a response. Vorians, I'll PM or post a response here if he gets back to me.

Hello Everyone-- I'm posting here thanks to the E-mail sent to me.

Wow! That is a surprise to hear that someone took the time needed to repair the mod. It's always bothered me that our team dispersed into the working world before we really got a chance to polish and repair the corruption issue post-launch. Unfortunately, our lead programmer/scripter was the first to be employed. Vorians definitely has our blessing in releasing a patch to fix our mod issues.

I'd first like to apologize on behalf of our team for anyone who's been caused undue headache by what was our first stab at using the Oblivion Editor. The project itself was actually a Project we completed in roughly two months, including the time it took us to learn the Oblivion editor. It was always our goal to create a packaged start-to-finish experience (sort of like a mini-expansion) and polish the balance/rewards as much as possible, and though we tried to keep the mod clean, nobody had ever thought that the mod could be broken in a way that would permanently harm anyone's save file.

We'd planned on releasing a few more patches for minute balance after gaining more feedback-- but the more serious crash/corruption issues caused by the file halted our progress. After our head scripter was employed, he had no time to look at the mod, and several forum-goers had declared that the mod would need to be remade from the ground up to be sanitary, we had declared the project an experiment that met an unhappy end, and tried to keep anyone else from damaging their save files by using it.

In that time, we have all since graduated college and gone on to jobs that have severely cut our free-time to work on future projects, or any extensive update to FBM.

Vorians has all of our collective gratitude for finding a way to fix the mod, and most definitely our permission and thanks for uploading those fixes. I can't thank you enough for taking the time to get a hold of us, and it brings me some measure of comfort to know that people out there did enjoy the story, and it was not a complete loss. :)

*Joy*

Patrick (FBM lead) got back to me and has given the team's blessing for Vorians to release the patch magic. I forwarded the email to Vorians as well.

Never hurts to have another quest mod :P

Edit: Ah, I see you meant posting here. Even better ^.^ TY again!

well then post our patch asap! I can't wait to play it without worrying about damaging my file (which, since I had it active but not in use for a long time, any damage it caused probably already has been done)

Sure - partake.

Vorians does great stuff. This and if Adash can get translated are both exciting news.

Fearsome magic too ... not playing a mage but it would be cool to fight smarter mages.

Our thanks goes out to any and everyone that thought the mod was at all worthwhile enough to go through the hassle of doing anything apart from playing it. This is the one project I had the opportunity to write/voice act for- so I'm glad it hasn't gone to waste, despite the technical problems. :)

Wow thanks for cleaning this up Vorians! I've always been interested in this mod, but couldn't try it because of all the problems. I look forward to being able to go through it sometime :)

Just wanted to say how impressed (and thankful) I am for Vorian's work on fixing and patching mods in general, and of doing this after what all others who have looked at it have said.

This mod looked very interesting, but I have always stayed away from it due to its issues. But now I will try it out too. :)

Excellent. I guess some of us get better responses to these sorts of things than others :)

Anyway, is the mod itself going to get uploaded in the existing mod entry or is the patch going to end up on a separate one? Seems the best possible solution is to replace the bugged one on Nexus with a fixed one and at least limit future users exposure to the bad file.

Thanks Miyth :) And I never even had to make the effort to try and contact you, it was all done before I had a chance!

You'll have to wait until this evening (British time) as I only just arrived at work. It's 8.30am right now, I won't get home until around 6pm, so I'll upload the ESP shortly after that.

That depends on Miyth. I've had a PM from him/her but I haven't had a chance to read it yet nor reply, and won't be able to until my lunch hour (I should already have gotten off these forums for the morning and started work!). The implication in this thread is that I should upload it myself, in which case it will go onto a new page on Nexus, ESP only, with a link to download the BSA separately from the original page. However I too would prefer to have the mod authors themselves upload the file on the existing page to replace the old ESP. It's their mod after all, not mine, so I shouldn't be in a position to receive credit for their work instead of them.

I'd be happy to grab the passwords for the upload accounts and upload the repaired files to the original upload location. :)

I'll have the chance to do it tomorrow afternoon. - (I'll be on a plane most of today after I get back from work, so I won't have a chance to sit down with a computer until tomorrow, but I'll take care of it then ASAP after talking to Vorians.) I'll also be sure to post here when everything's taken care of.

I just want to say, this is why I love these forums. Someone posts a mod that desperately needs patching to be enjoyed by everyone, and within a few days it's patched and has the blessing of the original creators. I'm impressed BGSF. *proud tear*

Quick update guys:

I've gotten the ESP from Vorians, and I'll take care of uploading the ESPs/ finding the login information first thing tomorrow. (I've spent all day today and yesterday in and out of airports, so I'll be taking care of it tomorrow afternoon.) Expect to see an update here containing the new links. :)

Glad to hear its fixed!

Didnt think it would be possible due to the problems that have been reported, but im glad there shouldnt be any problems left.
I assume there will be some sort of testing period to check for any little squishy leftover buggies? :obliviongate:
Dont think you will miss any Eagle-Eyed-Vorians but I'd be rather safe then sorry.

Also thanks to Ntom for reporting this old timer and Miyth and the team for creating the mod.
Im such a svcker for quest mods!

Vorian's patch has been updated at TES Nexus tonight, and those changes will be mirrored over to PES tomorrow. The most recent version of FBM is currently 1.2, which includes Vorian's fix for the most serious issues that players were experiencing.

As of now, FBM is in its "last" phases of Beta. There are still minor bugs/balance issues leftover from 1.1 that will be addressed in the 1.3 (Final) release of the Mod. As of this point Vorians also has the approval and gratitude of the original team to continue to work on developing a polished 1.3 at his leisure. :)

Thanks again all, who kept the project alive.
