Here it is in my ini http://www.bild.me/bild.php?file=2058583ScreenShot381.jpg

For anyone else looking up this subject make sure you are editing the correct .ini file in your documents \ my games \ oblivion

Edit: Oh sorry just noticed you havent opened it before - Just open it with windows notepad (right click, open with, notepad if its listed, if not browse to C:\windows\notepad.exe), check the box for using notepad as default to open the file, then if you double click the file in future notepad will open it.

I use notepad++ instead, same thing with a lot more functions.

rarely it can be corrupted. If you delete the one in documents \ my games \ oblivion, then start the game a new one will be generated. If you havent tweaked it before .. nothing to lose to ensure you have all entries there should be, before tweaking it.

There are differences between the default ini (which you shouldn't touch) and the Oblivion.ini. My version of the game is the dvd GOTY version with Shivering Isles and DLCs included.

Older versions of the game not fully patched with official patches can make a difference to what you see in the Oblivion.ini too.

Whatever you do dont delete the default ini, otherwise the game will not start. The Oblivion.ini can be safely deleted though to have the game regenerate a new one.

Another point, nobody can give a spoiler here to help out, because everyones machine and setup will be different, the game has to generate a new one, copying and pasting someone elses ini would probably give you a mess of problems.

well i do not have game of the year edition however i do have si and all the extras . i also installed all of the proper official and unofficial patches and supplementals.

and yes id never mess with the default ini. i went ahead and started a new game every thing starts up ok exited the game and checked the new ini file it generated still nothing in my ini file after this entry bExternalLODDataFiles=1 untill the desplay section. its taken me quite some time to get to this point of my install. so im really not sure what to do i dont want to reinstall everything again. just to see if i get a different ini file this time around.

I typed "border" in the search field. with one click this is where it is in my INI . I have the Original (bought day of release) DVD version of OB.

Using Notepad++= http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee72/camaro_69_327/2010%20Oblivion/BorderinINI.jpg Looks like mine is in a different layout?

Try a search for just the word "border" <

It cant hurt, if its a title not recognised by the game it will be skipped when reading the oblivion.ini ....

This is the place where Wrye Bash sets it - http://www.bild.me/bild.php?file=1481527ScreenShot381.jpg

However I just did a search for border - :) and found another one O_o http://www.bild.me/bild.php?file=2196489ScreenShot382.jpg

So now I wonder which one actually sets it. Going to ask the Wrye Bash team if this is something they need to look at with the included ini tweaks.

Anyway, if you have both of the above it is working for me (I use Arthmoors Feldscar, and The Chapel shop, both of which need borders disabled)

ok that actually helped a bit. just searching for border. as i found this

[MAIN]
bEnableBorderRegion=0

ah so thats where its found in bash. actually that ini tweak in my bash has an orange square and says that that particular tweak is invalid .

bEnableBorderRegion is the initial setting that exists in the default .ini, after starting the game for the first time and oblivion.ini gets generated, bBorderRegionsEnabled is used instead.

You use Wrye Bash?, just right click and choose Apply on the ini tweak :)

Though if you have regenerated your ini after starting the game again, and omeletted is correct about this, then it should have already been put in there in your case .. it wasn't - No idea why.

Maybe she hasn't generated a new character and started a game for the first time? Wild guess. Anyway, my bEnableBorderRegion=1 and bBorderRegionsEnabled=0, working fine in-game.

well then since its not getting entered properly in my ini file when generate a new one. thats probably why its an invalad tweak in bash. becuase its not got the same name.

ok i just tried it again. this time wihtout obse active so it was from the normal oblivion launcher. still same results as though i had used obse and launched it threw bash. with reguard to the type of ini file that was created.

I think in omeletted's case bBorderRegionsEnabled=0 is taking priority over bEnableBorderRegion=1 which is why its working, I have them both set at 0 and it works for me too.

mystery05 have you tried right click and choose apply on the bash ini tweak?. It should create the entry, if it had already been created with a different value of 1 the 1 will change to 0 so that borders are disabled and you can walk over them. I think you just need to apply it for the first time.

just a note:...

I haven't seen you actually say that you either delete /rename the Oblivion INI. The one in My documents. Before starting the game change that file to be...Oblivion.bac. then start Oblivion \ w OBSE.

Which are you Doing? deleting/moving/renaming

when i realized that i needed to make sure the borders were disabled i made a copy of my ini file that is in my games folder. NOT the one in the oblivion folder.
then i opened it up and tried to find it. then i was told deleate it and regenerate it so thats exactly what i did i deleated it totally. and started a new game with a new char. and i have done so both with and without obse running.

The mysteries of the Game we call Oblivion!! At this point I would look at this as you have...I can ADD that in but what else am I missing?? And why is it not working right.

Does your Oblivion crash on Exit?...that is when OB saves the INI..

At all...Cant we use the console to "save INI" before exit of game.

yes my game does crash on exit every time

ive just become used to this over the years. even when i finally came back to give oblivoin another go. so much had changed and i read all i could find tried my best to get the latest downloads of everything i needed. and even playing this time with clean files. figured ok all this has got to help . hahahah

before my last hard drive wip. due to changing from 32 bit vista to 64 bit win 7 i had roughly 175 mods installed ( not one of them cleaned and most of them quite out to date . no supplementals to any thing. flat out played great. though still crash to desk top. though not every time.

guess if its not broken fix it till it is ?

mystery05 I have linked this thread in the Wrye Bash thread so maybe someone will know why you cannot apply an ini tweak

meanwhile ... have you not just tried adding the line bBorderRegionsEnabled=0 with notepad to your oblivion.ini ?

The oblivion.ini is just a text file which is read by oblivion when it starts. bBorderRegionsEnabled=0 is a valid entry. If you paste it in same position as in the screenshots above I cant see it not working.

Edit: For your crashes http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410

Try http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410, if it crashes on exit every time then it's probably not saving the oblivion.ini properly.
