Disable some features on "Hard" mode?

Post » Sat Oct 08, 2011 5:48 am

Personally I feel very dissatisfied when "Hard" just means a flat +200% creature HP.

It would be great if hard, first and foremost, enhanced creature DAMAGE instead of HP, so you had to manage your foes tactfully instead of just beating at a damage sponge.

Furthermore, it could disable fast travel (of which Im not very fond of in the first place), for example, and force the character to eat/drink/sleep periodically.

What do you think?

Then it turns into "hardcoe" mode.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree.
Pure difficulty should never be weaved into the same option as the so called "hardcoe modes".

For instance; I like increasing difficulty as I progress in the game, but I don't want to suddenly have to eat, sleep and drink to make sure I don't die because I toggled the hard option from having it on medium before (so to speak).

I'd be fine with an option for a hardmode though, but I believe Bethesda let us know that it wasn't in. But there'll always be mods and if you're dedicated enough you can do it without any help.

Like NV hardcoe mode without fast travel.

Well hardcoe mode is certinly somthing you can ask for(i dont want it, nor do i beleive it would be dev time well spent). But why do people continue to want a feature removed you dont have to use?

I'd keep fast travel, but I like the idea of a hardcoe mode. But Beth said it was out, so we'll just have to wait for the modders... :(

hardcoe mode would have to be separate from "hard" mode. Some players just don't like being forced to do rather meaningless things (video game wise).

But I agree, hard mode in Oblivion was terrible. Made it a grind, more than a challenge. There's no fun in that.

I liked how Dragon Age did. On hard AoE spells would hurt the caster and allies, and on normal it wouldn't Things of this nature would be nice.

I don't see how disabling fast travel or having to eat really increases difficulty, more of just an annoyance. I do agree that it would be nice if enemies did more damage instead of just having tons of health though. The enemies with tons of health were so annoying in oblivion.

I think that it would be interesting if they had a seperate option for "hardcoe mode," I think that it should have its own seperate difficulty levels too though, not that I would use them since I personally will be playing on the hardest difficulty.

I do agree that just making things take longer to kill and nothing else isn't exactly a difficulty boost. Maybe having enemies have better spells or magicka regeneration or lower the amount of health/magicka/fatugue you get from food and potions or something along those lines might have a real impact.
