Disable the "finishing moves"

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:29 pm

I expect this thread to be flooded with replies like:

  • don't like it, don't buy it.
  • Whining about ''little details''
  • Get used to it
  • I don't care

Anyone else got something to add to this list?

I lol'd at the sub title.

Mod will remove 'em. I don't mind them so much though as long as they're not overly frequent.

We've already got a "you're stupid" reply in the thread. Don't forget those. If it's short, lacking depth/meaning, empty, rude, and possibly insulting, it's on the list.

Although finishers are fun, I want to control them. When, how and which one should be up to the player.
Yeah should be easily fixed with a menu option.

5. Apply for a job with Bethesda, get a promotion to design team leader, and then add an 'on/off' option.

Weird didn't Fallout 3 or NV let you turn off Kill cams?

I agree that the finishers are unnecessary, and from what I've seen, I don't think I'm going to like them, either.

There's one thing I want to know, though: When playing in first person, are the finishers just in first person, or does it randomly use the third person animations as well?

You can disable third person finishing moves. Not sure about first person though. According to Pete Hines anyway.

Fallout 3 didn't have them IIRC, but in New Vegas there is a menu option; "Cinematic", "first-person" (a free "Turbo" in practice :hehe:), and "Off".

Stupidity and people telling you to do a better job at it are both added to the list. Can someone help me keeping up this list? Perhaps also ranking them? I'd love to see the outcome by the end of the day.

I think the sadder thing is how blindly so many people accept, no, violently defend a forced implementation of these things.

So.. is it a bad thing i happen to like the finishing moves? :sadvaultboy:

If that's the case, then I'll do it. But I'm fine with the first person finishing moves, they looked pretty good in the vids.

You know what would be a great fix, enemies after taking amassive amount of damage or near death get stunned and kind of play an animation signifying them near death, why not have it so if you WANT to finish them you hold the attack button OR even better BASH and if you don't you just give a regular attack? also make it toggable whether or not people want this to happen on the fly like vanilla

Both parties win

What i found http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Finishing_moves it says that we should be able to turn it off/on?

The ability of executing a finishing move is a new mechanic-feature in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that allows the player to kill enemies with a final deadly strike.
It has been hinted that the mechanic is triggered by using certain attacks when an enemy is near-death. While performing a finishing move a short animation is played, making the player unable to carry out any other task for a couple of seconds until the animation has played through.

You will be able to switch off finishing moves.

I can't help but picture the stun animation as the one in Mortal Kombat before you perform a Fatality.

I agree. I don't like it suddenly switching from first person to third person view. It doesn't look right to me.

No, not at all. I would consider it a bad thing if you were defensive of forcing them on the player without the option of a toggle, however.

I agree with you totally OP, I could accept if, when playing in 3rd person i only got 3rd person finishers, and vice versa for 1st person, but i really dislike the 'cinematic' finishers, if you will.
Dont get me wrong, they look good, they add a bit of dazzle to combat, but they interrupt the flow of gameplay, in my eyes.

Sounds cool. A good "cinematic" experience can enhance any number of games.

(Yes, I play the games in 99% first person. No, I wasn't bothered at all by the "kill cam" sequences in FO3. Only problem I had in NV was when it triggered for my companion - kind of jarring to have that come out of nowhere when I was just standing around, and my NPC had wandered off to squish a roach in the next room.)

I think it should be an option to remove them from the game.

Personally I like the finishing moves. Kinda makes your character look like a badass as opposed to some guy who just chops people to death with the same motion over and over and over again.

I don't really see how the this makes the game more like a movie as a finishing move is maybe like 5 seconds... Not really a lot of time in a game where you could spend hours exploring the wilderness picking flowers.

But each to their own I guess.
