Disabling Hard core mode on dlc's?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 7:33 am

I know many of you play with hard core mode on (which is the best way to play), but i would like to know, how many (like myself) disables it before entering a new dlc? :ermm: I know it's not as "hardcoe" as keeping it on all the time. But in dead money after the first hour of gameplay, i disabled it, and began agian (lol) :glare: It's just so annyoing when you'r stuck in a dlc and can't find any food, or drink resorce (not refering to owb or hh), and need to start over

I'll like to hear you guy's opinion!

oh man....my first time through dead money, i HAD to turn it off. that was unbelieveably frustrating. since then though i've replayed it with hardcoe on and haven't had to turn it off again for any of my characters. i've just started pacing myself better and gotten out of the habit of CHARGING right into stuff expecting to destroy all in sight

Dead money I really felt the need to turn off HC mode the first time I tried it. Then I got smart and backed up to a save before entering, then picked up the 'Pack Rat' perk before trying again. Yes, one little perk made all the difference.

Same here! :foodndrink:

Just after i downloaded Dead money i whent to the abonned BoS bunker and started right away. It' was hell (even if you didn't get to keep your stuff) :toughninja:

So a MONTH before Owb realease i started to collect ammo, chems, and siera madre chips to get all the stuff. So i went trough owb without problems - Like a BOSS! :gun:

The depleting health in Dead Money never posed a problem for me and I was always able to find stuff to keep my meters down, so no.

I don't even have HC Mode on most of the time. The only time I had HC on was when I did a playthrough to get the achievment.
Oh, and I've never done a DLC with HC mode on. What's the point in going through the trouble? To "have a challenge"?

I myself was fine throughout the entirety of Dead Money on hardcoe mode--both of the times I've beaten it so far. And I'm starting my third run today or tomorrow in hoping that I'll beat the Lonesome Road release date and get this character at the current max level, so I'll have another Dead Money playthrough on my belt. I actually didn't think the depleting health or the lack of resources was difficult in any of the playthroughs for some reason. Especially when you get inside the Sierra Madre but that seems a little obvious, In terms of the outside, managing the Stimpaks that are found and chips, I was able to manage.

Havent played it on hardcoe mode, cant bring myself to limit the amount of lead I carry by which I mean ammo. I like filling things with holes, on hardcoe mode that is freaking hard so since bullets weigh a bit I end up carrying too much weight. I have a character level 40 on standby right before leaving goodsprings( I miss the mantis leg glitch) so when I get LR im going to kill giant scorps till lvl 50 and distance shoot some PG so I can get to 50 and get mad perks then that playthrough will be hardcoe since im going full melee with my new favorite perk which is Implant GMX (SP?). That perk saved my ass from many a lobotomite ambush and Legion Assassin Party. Oh also [censored] Legion :ahhh:

I had deadly rad poisoning going into Dead Money HC with Rad Child, so I didn't even notice the cloud.

I just find it way more enjoyable. But my meters almost never run into any difficulty. You can get by so easily on one meal a day and drinking water maybe three times a day. There is a ridiculous amount of the stuff around. I generally have something to eat and drink in the morning when I get up and then top up as needed through the day.

What I love about hardcoe mode is you need a Doctors Bag to heal your limbs and stimpaks heal over time. You can kill anything without hardcoe mode on just by spamming stimpaks; seriously. Doesn't matter how much damage you take if you spam stimpaks. When I see a pack of Dethclaws running at me when I'm on hardcoe mode... oh man. That is a challenge . Course being a sneak bases player, that also means I've done something wrong :ninja: It also would annoy the living hell out of me if I could walk around with all this infinite ammo. It is so stupidly unrealistic... I don't think I could ever adapt to not having to factor that in.

I honestly can't see myself getting Fallout 4 without hardcoe mode.

Anyway, digression over, I had very little difficulty in Dead Money? You can get adrenaline at the Auto-Doc so you don't need to sleep and there are enough Sierra Madre chips that you can get a limitless supply of food and drink from the vending machines. The fact the air slowly kills you was a fun challenge though! I liked that. It's meant to be a place so dangerous almost no-one has ever left alive. You can hardly complain about that!

With any luck it'll be the only mode for FO4. None of this "AMR-with-10,000-rounds-of-ammo" silliness, or the absurdity of bashing hotkeyed stimpaks for 'Godmode'.

Nope it was never that much of an extra hurdle to me, the only time I changed anything for a dlc was OWB I went in with almost nothing thinking the dlc would provide it like DM and HH had I had to bump down the difficulty for a while I ran out of bullets and healing items until I took one of the new perks and pumped every skill point into energy weapons then I turned it back to very hard. I have several different files some hardcoe some not the only real challenge is getting used to one after playing the other.

Why not leave it an option like difficulty, different people like different things whats it matter to you if I feel like carrying an armory with me along with ten billion rounds its a single player game and in this case making hardcoe optional has no affect on the game, more options means a wider audience and thus more sales and money. I see no reason not to leave certain things as options especially when they have no effect on the game.

Some of us enjoy having 10,000 pounds of ammo and stim packs. In fact, with any luck, the only mode for F04 will have triple instant heals, 1 cap stims, and a mini gun speed anti material rifle as your starting gun. Along with a hundred thousand rounds of ammo.

See I can make statements filled with opinionated bias as well.

I hope theres not going to be a "hardcoe feature" in FO4. I think the difficult level should determ how hard the game is, and not only how tough the enemy's are. For example, if you put it' on very hard, you get thirsty and hungry alot faster, and on normal should be the "speed" hardcoe mode on FNV is right now. But the idea of turning the "ammo has wieght, and stimpacks don't heal instantly" feature on and off is a good idea! :disguise:

The first time I played thru DM I played very hard but not hardcoe mode and I thought it was hard.

The second time thru I played hardcoe/very hard. It was scary at first and seemed harder. But taking my time and finding certain places to hang out where your health doesn't erode made it less dificult. Food is in a lot of nooks and corners but you have to keep your eyes open and look for them. By the time you get to the casino food and health loss is no longer a problem.

In the end I find hardcoe/very hard settings force you to be more resourceful and for me that increases enjoyment and immersion into the game.

Before you start Dead Money, do you keep what is on you, or are you stripped of everything like other Fallout 3 DLC? Can you carry what you want or limited to some stuff? If you can bring in stuff, should you bring in more food and drink with you then?

None taken. I have no idea, I never played it yet. That is why I am asking. I thought if your items are not taken, and if I carried more food and water than normal (usually I cary 3 bottles of diry water, 3 bottles of clear water and 3 Gecko steaks) maybe I should carry more and not have the furstrations as other peopel are having.

Everything is taken, and you have to scavenge.

EDIT: Correction, everything but Quest Items are taken.

I've never turned it off.. water is pretty easy to find in all dlc's.. even if it's radiated it takes a while for you to build up that radiation level through drinking water. I've found food everywhere. Just eat it when you find it rather than trying to build up a supply or waiting until your actually hungry or thirsty. Also it's best to sleep when you find a bed rather than waiting until your tired and traipsing around trying to find one. You only need to sleep an hour to restore your rest so that really doesn't matter too much.
