Oh my! Disappearing Children!

Post » Fri Jun 11, 2010 2:28 pm

To start, I would like you all to follow this rule, I want this thread to work:
Discussion of controversial current events may be closed without notice if it appears the discussion has, or will, become disorderly. Likewise, discussion of killing children is not permitted as it is classed as mature content, neither is it a feature of Bethesda Softworks games.

We all went on killing sprees in Oblivion and Fallout 3. Save first. Then attack a beggar and watch the townsfolk be killed by your unrelenting skills. Now. I don't wan't children to be around when I am killing people. They are so innocent and they should not see such things.

My suggestion is simple.

When you attack someone, the children should run away at top speed. The children should run into the nearest separate cell and then DISAPPEAR! The children would not be around to see you kill the advlts and therefor would be "ignorant and blissful." Even if you follow them they would not reappear. They would be gone from the world until much later, after your spree.

After your killing spree, if you choose not to load your save, then the children would reappear eventually.

What do you guys think of this idea? Remember the forum rules!

Or there should just not be children.

I'd prefer it like that.

Remember children's day in Daggerfall: Where over a hundred children were kidnapped by vampires never to be seen again.

But on topic: Maybe nothing happens? It should be like Morrowind.

You guys have to understand that there ARE kids in the game already. They likely have to do with quests already made and many other important game elements. Kids are in.

this, they weren't there before and all this contributes is an unneccessary element of realism that is ameadiatly broken by the invincibility of children.

No children makes sense. What kind of parent lets his kids hang out around Dovahkiin, anyway?

This and this.

Still, if there must be children in the game, I'd rather Bethesda handled it realistically. As that's against forum rules, I'll just say that I don't support the idea of children leaving this plane of existence to protect their "innocence."

The couple of kids there was in FO3 couldn't be killed or even hit for that matter if my memory is correct, and soon as any violence started they high tailed it behind unopenable doors.

I have a feeling this is how it will be handled in Skyrim as well.

I felt that this was immersion breaking honestly. I would rather them just not have any children.

Having children adds variety. Sometimes there are families in Elderscrolls games. Oblivion specifically had a couple I can think of off the top of my head...from the guild master of the fighters guild to the count of Cheydinhaal.

I feel like the two siblings of these families were rather immature, and unfit for the jobs they had...making them much more suitable as children rather than full advlts. Both could be killed though...so that would raise some questions.

Fallout 3 did it right. If you start up a riot..the children hide.

Because having all advlts well you lose immersion. Even though some people will have a cow if children are unattackable.

If so, I guess that's what mods are for (and I mean removing the children...not making them not invincible).

Unfortunately they have to cut corners with kids though. Dragon Age Origins had one of the toughest decisions I had to make in a game ever, but unfortunately we'll have stupid kids running around aimlessly mindlessly.

In a perfect world...well, in a perfect Elder Scrolls world, I wouldn't have to put up obnoxious children and their frivolities. But I'm pretty sure Bethesda will at least make some effort for them to be inconspicuous: working out in the fields or indoors with their parents, not running around in the streets and being jerks like the Fallout ones were.

If not, how about a "sneak up behind child and scare the pants off of them, causing them to go fetal position and stop talking for 10 minutes" function?

:P

I don't know this for sure, but I'm doubting we will see children in abundance like in games like Fable.

I didn't think they'd allow it. I did it the second time around because its so much easier than going to the fade.

Here I was thinking about how insightful your initial post was. Have you played Oblivion? Of course it didn't have kids! Read my post again...I said if they were children rather than advlts.

The kids in Fallout were incredibly slow. You could chase them and chase them. Think of it this way. You wouldnt want a stray arrow to HIT a child? Would you? The children should be far away before something like that has a chance to happen!

Didn't Dragon Age Origins have that one kid possessed by a demon?

and if an arrow happened to hit the space where a kid was it would do nothing, the npc would not even acknowledge it any more than just running away more.
