Disappearing Rock Syndrome

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:04 pm

So I was watching the Trailer and noticed after he absorbs the Dragon and the camera pans around the screen, you can see some of the rocks disappear and reappear as the camera moves, Something that I noticed a Lot in Fallout and Oblivion. Seems It's back I believe we should make a lore related excuse for this manifestation of disappearing rocks.

Isn't that the LOD system acting? That wouldn't happen with Tessellation....

I've highlighted the location of Subject A, If you look out for it then you will easily see it.

That probably has to do with a difference between the real mesh and the distant LOD.

I can kinda see what you mean. Looks more like the detail of the rock increasing than rocks appearing, and it's so small in this picture it probably won't be noticable in-game.

I can see it now. Wonder why it disappeared, but it's almost unnoticeable.

What's interesting is, if you look at the rock before it disappears, it gradually appears first.

Nice catch. I have 270 screenshots of that part of the video and didn't notice that. To me, it looks more like the generated snow is changing shapes, rather than a rock appearing. I wonder what int he engine would cause that.

Yeah at the start i did notice the bushes appearing when the dragon was flying in. Not game breaking at all but i had kinda hoped they had found a work around for this. Maybe on PC.
