Disappointed anyone?

Post » Tue Sep 22, 2009 3:28 am

Definitely not disappointed. Quite the opposite, actually. I fully expected Bethesda to mess this game up, after watching the transition from Morrowind to Oblivion. I expected them to make another dumbed-down "RPG". I am very happy to be wrong in this case. Fallout 3 is a lot of fun.

Seriously? I thought Fallout 3 was one of most prominent cases of "dumbing down" of the whole year. Not only is it frighteningly easy (even on very hard) but it is also extremely simple in terms of mechanics, 13 skills and half of those are purely combat skills. Compare the game to Oblivion or Morrowind before that in terms of the mechanics and you'll see that it is definitely "dumbed down" in some respects.

My disappointments are, as I said in my earlier post, mostly in the technical areas of bugs, graphics and game mechanics, after that I would have to say that I'm most disappointed with Bethesda for their lack of community interaction on this title, but that is something which has been in steep decline across the industry for a few years now, it was perhaps silly of me to expect Bethesda not to fall eventually when it comes to keeping the fans in the loop.

Yeah I was very dissapointed with the fast travel... then I was like you know screw it I'm walking to make this game more realistic.... not one random encounter walking places. I'm glad there's fast travel, because apparently I got bored walking back and forth places I've already cleared and there was no point in walking anymore. I thought fast travel is a bit stupid, but then again running across the waste with not one thing to kill changed my mind about fast travel. At one point I was walking/running from megaton to rivet city... then I got bored of doing that because there was nothing left to kill on the way between the 2 cities.

AND YES THE VARIETY OF GUNS IS LACKING! I was hoping the Pancor Jackhammer would be in this game but nope they didn't add it.

Why have an XP cap at all??

Because without it you end up with the same vanilla, bland, jack-of-all-trades characters you ended up with in games like Oblivion. It's not good role-playing when every character ends up being the same...ending up with 100 in every skill and every perk is not a good thing. It reduces the RPG system to a "gotta catch 'em all" power-up system, IMO.

I just wanted to ask if anyone was disappointed to the work that bethesda did to fallout3.

Once i started playing i was very exited about the game. It started uniquely with that baby and child stuff so it was a nice difference to other games. There was not too much of that mumbo jambo and it did a good job on giving a good base for building a storyline. I also liked the wasteland for first with a quite realistic post apocalyptic city with astonishing graphics and a good fighting system.

And then comes the crappy part: NOT ENOUGH MERCHANTS , NOT ENOUGH WEAPONS , TOO MUCH SAME STUFF , SAD FAST TRAVEL THAT MAKES YOU CORRUPT VERY FAST , NOT SO NICE WORLD . . . . . . so about those merchants and the weapons. Too much of the same stuff everywhere that you cant sell , becource the merchants don't have enough money. They took A LOT of weapons away that were in old fallouts i would of desired lots of diffirent kind of guns and not the same 10mm pistol and a hunting rifle for every damn raider , oh i almost forgot those very cool chinese noodel pistol and 32. NOT ENOUGH WEAPONS. In brotherhood of steel there was not enough guns but there was still much more than this has.

When i looked this game in the local store i visioned a very rough wasteland were if you let your guard down you'd be eaten by a death claw but no in this case a molerat comes pissing on your armor.
I saw a game with that wasteland having bastions of defence while ruthless mercenaryes and raiders trying to invade them in vast numbers.

So whats the verdict mm good game that leaves you kind of cold. Only 2 towns with a bit more people and . . it just . . is sad . . a vechicle would have been nice instead of the fast travel. that you would need to recover like all the motorcycle parts to get it so you can travel fast and you would run out of fuel and stuff. It would have also been nice if you needed to eat instead of living with purified water and stimpack diet :D

Ill write more if someone wants to even make a conversation but IT IS STILL ONE HECK OF A GAME AND ILL GO PLAY IT RIGHT NOW !!! :P

TL:DR

Just thought i would say.

Paranitis, you hit the nail on the head! Yet another case of FO1/FO2 worship by someone who clearly has not played either of those games in a looooooong time!! This game kicks ass & is vastly superior in every way imaginable!
Hey I've never played F1 or F2 (except the demo). But I'd like you to explain how F3 is vastly superior in every way imaginable.

So basically I'm going to have to use fast travel whether I want to or not because if I choose not to I'll be bored to tears by beths failure to provide lasting encounters? Great.

One gripe I have about it is that fact that it crashed loads of times (before I fixed the problem).

The level cap is perfect for this, since you are limited on your character. You just can't dominate everything effortlessly, which is what I like in a game.

I'll be blunt. So blunt that I may get kicked off the forum or at the very least the post will be locked. Zanfa are you a retard? Did you even play the game before making this post? Or are you just a straight up dumb*ss? Ok I'll answer the question about playing the game. No you didn't or you'd realize that what you complain about is already there but you haven't taken the time to look past your own nose. You'd also know there are ways to get vendors to have more money, that there are enough vendors to sell some to each one, that every 3 days they restock and get their money back. You'd have found out that if you invest in the Caravan traders they can have as much as 2k caps or more as well as an expanced inventory. You'd know that there are all sorts of wonderful unique weapons that you actually have to explore and, OMG!!! LOOK FOR, so you don't get stuck with the ordinary 10 mm pistol or .32 pistol, or Assault rifle, or hunting rifle, or missle launcher, or minigun, or combat knife, or sniper rifle, or .44 magnum, or laser pistol, or laser rifle, or plasma rifle, or submachine gun, and yea those are just the ordinary weapons. I didn't mention the schematics that allow you to take random parts and make a weapons that shoots random junk, or one that shoots railroad spikes, or one that shoots poisoned darts, or bottlecap mines, or nuka grenades. You'd also know that the enemies around you are dependant on your level and that as you get further into the game the enemies become more difficult and in fact a Death Claw can eat your stupid ass off if you don't know what to do with them. You'd also know there are more than 2 towns and and that there are enough threads here about realism in the game to choke a fk'n elephant. Try actually playing the game before making any more posts that make you sound as stupid as you obviously are. And yes I'm sick of morons on this forum. Long live Bethesda (even if they do kick me off the forums).

It's a great game. To the OP, I picked up 10 weapons in my first 5 hours out of the vault! Thats A LOT! Fast travel is there because not every gamer wants to walk over familiar landscape, encumbered for half an hour. Personally, I never use it because I like the challenge but I have no problem with it being available for those who want to use it.

Now tell me again what your complaint about weapons is?

Fable 2 was ok fun, I played it about 3 times too before picking up Fallout 3. I give my vote to Peter Molyneux for Lier of the Year. That man has so much crap flowing out of his mouth he could fill my septic tank.

No. I was not disappointed. Apparently I'm one of those lucky few who managed to not get svcker punched by ad hype, nostalgia, or sheer lack of imagination, and was able to enjoy the game right out of the box. And now I'm modding it to my own ends, and enjoying it even more.

So no. I'm not disappointed. :)

When I played Fable 2 on my friend's Xbox, it didn't even remotely resemble Peter Molyneux's fluffy description of it...

I agree with Garrison 110%.

Aye without going madly off topic (ok just a little) the game was great fun to play, just didn't have the longevity to keep me playing and greatly disappointed me looking back unlike this one.

I will be disappointed if the story ends up svcking but I haven't completed it yet. I would have liked some plasmids or mutations or bow and arrow instead of just guns. I thought there would be cooler powers but there are not.

Fun fact: plasmids don't actually give you powers! Now, you can throw away all that junk you learned from Bioshock. Fallout has been decent enough not to get overboard with that brand of Science!

Admit that if they combined Bioshock with FO3 it would be the ultimate game.
