I'm disappointed in this game

Post » Sat Jan 16, 2016 5:45 am

After being the first Bethesda game I've ever purchased, I have to say I'm less than pleased.

So far I've experienced glitches such as Preston Garvey no longer having a chat list, Piper disappearing from the settlement I sent her to, and (avoiding spoilers) one individual "shutting down" whenever I try to move them from the castle.

I could deal with these, as unhappy as they made me, however I couldn't deal with being locked out of quests. Notably, the Silver Shroud quest. I can't advance in this due to Hancock being on a chat loop (like Preston is). I have no idea how many quests I'm locked out of now.

I'm very careful of which games I buy, and I'm sorry to say that I've made a mistake when purchasing Fallout 4. It's highly unlikely that I'm ever going to buy another Bethesda title again.

Don't give up on FO4 just yet. It is a fantastic game, one of the most enjoyable I have ever played.

Yes there are bugs, but in a game as huge as this that is unavoidable.

Hopefully some patches will stabilise things. You are missing out if you don't give it a chance, it really is good.

Bethesda creates massive games with many different interaction possibilities that are very moddable. In such games the danger of bugs is existent. I'm really surprised that I faced so few in my playthrough and that FO4 is so stable, compared to Skyrim. Good job in my opinion.

it's really not a loop or bug with Hancock ^^

you just need to make him your companion, before the dialogue option appears...

it's a weird design choice, but you can dismiss him right after you've talked to him

out of the games that I've played in the last years (Far Cry 1-4; Fifa 13-16; all the Assassins' Creeds, Witcher 2&3) this is actually one of the more stable games with less annoying bugs, than I'm used to

I think you're too harsh with it ^_^

You surely had to play a lot to get to the Shroud quests, because it's quite far away from the starting point

I think I was already 50+ hours in, when reaching it... definitely worth the money ^_^ unlike many other games, that don't even last 20 hours :/

Skyrim was more stable and less buggy that the BGS games before it for me and I have had virtually no problems with FO4. I do seen to have way fewer problems with these games than some folks on these boards though. Maybe its because I purchase my new PCs in tandem and with the latest BGS game in mind but I'v had very little trouble at all with Skyrim or FO4 and way less than most with Morrowind and Oblivion.

I don't have the option to add him as a companion. He just talks about a massacre that I'm supposed to commit or something to do with bobbi no-nose.

I've put quite some time into this game. Not 50 hours, though.

All the advice I've looked for only gives console commands, which aren't available on the Xbox One.

What bothers me most is that these issues seem to have been around for quite sometime, and Bethesda hasn't done anything to remedy the situation. It's not the kind of business that I support. I know that coming to these forums for an answer from Bethesda was going to be fruitless venture, but I said what I wanted to say. And that's good enough for me.

Bethesda games are always buggy at launch, it's almost become tradition. don't give up on it yet though, they keep supporting their games for a long time, most of the bugs will be patched out. it's impossible to get rid of everything just because of the nature of the games they make. if you're on PC there will be unofficial patches too, which will clean up even more stuff.

maybe put it aside for a while, a lot of those bugs will be ironed out in time.

When Bethesda releases the official modding tools, there will be fans that will create unofficial patches for the game that will fix a lot of issues. I would recommend setting the game aside and wait until these patches come out. Then install them into your game and see if it fixes the majority of your issues. I'm betting it will. Modders have done a fantastic job fixing Skyrim. I don't see how this game would be any different.

I had that. Go to that new home of hers. It's a bit awkward as it's unmarked between the police station, University Point and the Subway station. Either kill her or let her leave. She has some money on her which she gives or you take. You can then progress with Hancock by paying her debt or talking your way out of it. I've found this game stable barring the rare occasions when it minimises on startup. It can be really hard then to open the running game. Anyhow, stable despite a pile of mods.

I've done this before. She isn't in the Hawthorne Estate. I can't find her anywhere in the building, and it isn't that large of one.

This doesn't help my opinion of Bethesda. They're making their fans do the work that they should be doing themselves.

The Pierson glitch is annoying but I think they will fix it later, in my opinion it still is not as broken as BF4 was when it came out which is impressive on a game without an open beta.

Easy fix. Put the game away and go play something else. Literally no one is forcing you to buy and/or play Bethesda's games.

Seriously, you expect Hancock to be civil with you and let you turn in quest after you stole all his stuffs and kill his right hand man? That's not a glitch at all, and you need to make up to him before he can forgive you.

If you dismiss Piper and not at the settlement, then she's a likely at the Publick Occurence.

Some characters won't have a chat list UNTIL you finish their personal quest like Preston, you need to take over the Castle.

You either love them or hate them.

Anyone that asks me if its worth a purchase, I just ask them if they have played a Bethesda game. If they didn't like them before they probably wont enjoy the new one.

To be expected, and it's a shame new players to a Bethesda game will experience what the rest of us accept as normal. Yes, these issues will plague other Bethesda games as well, such as Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas. They're all using the same, broken engine after all these years. Reminds me of Al Bundy and his Dodge.

Given your frustration, the only thing I can say is "Here's hoping you can look past the blemishes to enjoy the bigger part of the game."

If only their were a way to take things you wish you did not buy back to the store with proof that you bought it their maby on a slip of paper, they should name that process "returning" or a place where you can sell anything you get tired of using that people want to buy, they should call it "Amazon" if either of these things existed they would make this thread pointless

That's unfortunate that you are experiencing all of these issues, but from what I've heard, the bugs and glitches seem to vary from person to person. For example, I've only had my game freeze on me (during a loading screen) once and crash only once, but haven't had any game-breaking bugs/glitches. I do feel bad for people who seem to get a very buggy edition... :(

What are these chat loops you're locked into? They could possibly be waiting for you to do something.

Preston just says that he's glad to have a friend like me and calls me general.

Hancock keeps telling me I need to go to "Southie" and take care of Bobbi no nose. I've checked the Hawthorne estate and Bobbi's den where you first meet her. It doesn't seem like she's in the game anywhere.
