Disappointed with drugs and alcohol

Post » Fri Jun 25, 2010 6:39 pm

I've never found a need to ever use them. The stat changes are so insignificant that I have yet to find a situation where I ever needed to use them. I would like to see them getting more significant stat changes in a future patch and maybe some visual changes too. No matter how much alcohol I drink, everything still looks the same which is kind of disappointing.

Alternatively, if anyone knows of a mod that specifically changes only the stats of drugs and alcohol, that would be super cause I can't find any on the nexus.

I use Psycho and Med-X regularly on my gimped characters to get that extra edge against harder enemies.
I use Buffout whenever I get overencumbered.
I use Mentats when I'm 13 points short of a speech check.
I use hydra for massive crippled limbs.
I use Turbo for Melee/Unarmed fighting deathclaws and cazadors.

Lots of uses for drugs IMO.
Alcohol I could do well without though.

Agreed. I was hoping for the same effects of drugs an alcohol like the the Originals. I was hoping we could get drunk. The drugs are way more helpful then bad. If you play on hardcoe Mode there are effects for when you get addicted so that is something.

I use them, they're just very situational, IMHO. Like, when you're doing the mission to get back Ted Gunderson, when you get jumped and you're unarmed, the Psycho and Med-X saved my life there.

Good for roleplaying such as a chracter getting addicted to Med-X after an advanced cybernetics implant. Otherwise, no use.

I use chems all the time. The ones you can make yourself, like slasher or party-time mentats are extremely useful.

Although, I wish there were more negative effects for getting addicted. Being addicted to chems is about as bad as being a little hungry.

I will regularly use coyote chew and mentats until my skills get up where they need to be. I also find steady to be extremely helpful on sniper builds until you get your guns skill up. The rest are just free money.

-gunny out.

Drugs are the sole reason the Courier is overpowered. Think about it, what would you have done if Legate Lanius had 40 stim paks, 3 turbos, a med-x, psycho, slasher, buffout and a tremble? I think you'd be [censored]ting your pants too!

Do what i do when you meet anything taller than yourself, chug everything in Aid all at once. You'll be completely blind for a few seconds, but it'll pass quickly and you will be a creature with powers beyond the scope and grasp of mortal men.

i felt they should have been much more potent with more intolerable side effects. i would have also given all alc a slight dt boost ranging from say one to five on the survival stat

I blame Boone. He must have done something in a past life in New Reno.

I popped all my drugs when I took on the legendary deathclaw. It was worth it.

Chems are pretty cool. I pop in a Party Time Mentat when negotiating for rewards or weapons. I chew some Coyote Tobacco Chew when taking on stronger criiters. I take some Buffout when I thought that there was still room left to explore that cave. And on one of my characters, I use Dixon's Whiskey to go through a semi-Dumb Playthrough.

He still have a special Healing Powder and even if a stimpack does +90 (at 100 medicine), said Healing Powder does 3 HP per second over 27 seconds (+81 HP).
Not to say 845/920 HP, 19 DT, 100 resistance to Poison and 99/100 at Melee Weapons (and a weapon that cannot be disarmed) and the fact he can outrun you even with his legs crippled.

I use Turbo, Med X, Psycho, and Buffout all the time to buff up for a tough fight.

I also use Turbo and Cateye constantly just for their visual effects. Its fun to spam the Ghost Sight from DM, a Nuka Cola Quartz, Cateye, and then take some Turbo then go on a killing spree with your vision extemely altered.

Alcohol is effected by your survival skill though.
If you max survival and has Cassidy as a companion, a swig of whisky will provoide +3 Strength, +3 Charisma and +6DT.

Hit him in the head with a sneak attack critical form the Gauss Rifle using maxed charged ammo, he'd still be dead.

My favorite is Steady. Being a sniper, it is very useful. There is a noticeble different in how steady your aim is after you take it.

I also use Buffout and eat Brahmin steaks for strength. Coyote Chew for perception. And I also use Party Time Mentats, Med-X, Cateye and some others.

But I agree. I do wish the alcohol had more of an affect. Like stumbling around at the very least.

I'm pretty sure Coyote Chew would be a tobacco product, and tobacco is a drug.

I do find Alcohol has a purpose if you have Old World Gourmet and Whiskey Rose, you can chug that alcohol faster and freer than anything in the Waste;land!
