Disappointing Multiplayer

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 5:28 pm

Nope. As a Bc2 fan, I've played on Arica maybe 50 times. Still not tired of it. Hell, I haven't gotten bored of any kind of map; in Black Ops I love the hell out of Nuketown and Launch, despite how I've played on them God knows how many times.

That's the thing, we ultimately end up playing the maps we like over and over again because we like them hence don't find them repeatative. I remember certain games where I go everywhere in my favorite map finding all kinds of cool spots and tricks to use. Then I am a beast at the level and enjoy it more.

The sign of a great mod, well that a rhyming. Great links.

IG: Brink is very much focused on co-operative gameplay. How difficult is it to create an experience that's rewarding for players playing in multiplayer as well as those that opt to play singleplayer alongside A.I teammates?

RH: I think with your average multiplayer style game, it would be impossible. But fortunately, Splash Damage has never been in the business of making fancier and fancier variations of deathmatch. Instead, our “Enemy Territory” style gameplay has always taken the best of single player, objective-driven gaming and meshed it with fantastic, infinitely dynamic multiplayer gaming. So with Brink, it was just a natural progression of our last 10 years of development to finally bridge the gap between solo, co-op, and multiplayer once and for all.

Thank you Wraith.

And I just found this dandy review which sort of says it all:

http://pc.ign.com/articles/101/1018540p2.html
Watching the demo with a fixed grin, we're never quite sure if what we're watching is single-player or multiplayer, but what we do know is that it looks like an absolute riot. The distinction between the two is so well blurred that it's only later that we realise that what we were watching was being played by several real-life players – and when the game ships, every position can be taken via drop-in/drop-out online play.

"The single-player/multiplayer thing, it's been a weird series of mindsets," explains Stern, "and the stereotypical thing is you're good at the single-player game, you're really enjoying it, you go online and it's such a different experience, you're bad at it and you fail to enjoy it. We're passionate about multiplayer objective gameplay, it's fantastic, but they can also be the most annoying thing when you're trying to play a game – so we're trying to guarantee all the stuff that's great about it and remove all the irking stuff, and make it completely seamless and consistent."

I am of the belief that this game is going to blow some socks off. Those worried about being disappointed will soon be worrying about having missed out from the start.

While taking the time to find this sort of information may be a slight bit of hassle, it sure provides some great and interesting reviews and for whatever reason, people tend to believe it more than all of us just sitting here saying, "because we know, because we have been paying attention" and being offended they won't take our word for it because they think we are just a bunch of crazy fans making stuff up.

The thing I find so funny is that this forum has been flooded with [censored] who dont understand what they're fanboying for, Im tired of these "OMG did you know Brink has guns I think the devs should change that" that thread. Just my two cents.

Oh and another thing, does anybody realize that COD and BF have the exact same map system, you play the same 10-20 maps everytime you play multiplayer, taking into account most of their multiplayer maps are just single player maps rearranged you should be criticizing more than just Brink.

Tired of it or not, it's going to happen more and more as the game comes closer to release and either you can be part of the process to educate or not. Nobody forces anyone to respond to a thread and if you have nothing kind, helpful and considerate to add then it's probably best to refrain from posting at all on those threads. Civil discussions and explanations work to bring more people into the forum and into the game. The more the merrier and it benefits the company that developed this game, the company that is producing this game and those who want future games of this type and who want to play coop or multiplayer.

This is a game forum. Have you ever seen a game forum that did not have such posts and threads? How we deal with it is another thing. Here we don't bash them or flame them for asking questions. There are no stupid questions as far as we are concerned. But continuing to complain about complainers adds fuel to fires and we don't allow that. If someone wants to complain about an aspect of a game that is fine. Let them. We can respectfully disagree and provide evidence for our side of things but we can't complain about them asking, or about them complaining or about their opinions.

So if you are "tired of it" just don't read it or respond, but enough of the "complaining about complainers" because we just plain don't allow that. Pretty soon we would have threads complaining about the folks who are complaining about complainers and it would take up the entire forum. We would have no space to talk about the actual game. So take a position....help, educate, discuss in a civil manner or ignore those threads that make you tired.

Pretty sure "Invite Only" is one of several play options. Invite only is probably the same as single player, sure there's a "Public" game option as well.

That's not even close to correct. There are invite only lobbies for people that just want to compete against their friends. There are also lobbies that don't allow parties and ones where voice chat is disabled. They've got this covered. As for the campaign/multiplayer thing, there are going to be 32 different "missions", and you can choose to play a different role every time. It's not going to be tedious.

I think of it like this, TDM is a meta-game. Even if you have a host of objectives to complete you are always going to be gunning for the opposing team..... so I'm not worried.

Okay thank you for clearing things up summer. What I failed to understand was the fact that it is mainly a multiplayer game. Now I get the impression that the campaign is a rehash of the multiplayer, not the other way around (I say this because the article says the line is blurred between single and multiplayer, if it is just objective based things than the single player is just multiplayer against AI). In that case this is almost a definite buy for me. Now I actually cant wait for it. I will admit that I was being slightly ignorant.

i dont see any problem with it. anyway. you do know that with pretty much every fps they basically rip a map from the singleplayer campaign and slap it into multiplayer. ya they may rearange it a little bit but its still basically the same thing.

in brink, yes youll be playing the same 8 maps over and over. but isnt that what you do in cod. i mean seriously. also in brink you add in the fact that you can play a map from 2 different perspectives with different objectives(security & resistance), you have thousands of different cusomization options with the 4 classes, 3 body types, 50 something abilities, 26 weapons with dosens of attachements/weapon skinns & you get to pick what cloths your guy wears. all of this with a max of 10 different chatacters at a time.

the thing i think you want is different game modes(i.e. deathmatch, ctf, s&d, headquarters. in brink there are multiple objectives that you could do in one map at the same time. there is the main one, then many, many side ones that you can do to help get to that main objective. plus there is the class based things you can do as well (buffing, healing, ammo restock)

dont worry about the replayability of the multiplayer just because its merged with the single player. i expect brink to have much more replayability than any cod/battlefield game. this game will be awesome,

You are very welcome. I am going to close this thread now, not because it's a bad one but because folks are still posting in response to your OP comments and not reading the rest of the thread thus...problems.

Since you now have an understanding of what they are doing here perhaps you can stick around and assist other new members to also understand. That would be awesome. As you know you didn't want to take just anyone's word for it and offering links to the information seems to assist with others understanding and getting it.

And btw, don't call yourself slightly ignorant, I'll have to warn you for flaming yourself since you are a member. :P

Welcome to the excitement!
