Disarm Shouts

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:51 am

Does anyone else get pissed off every time one of those draugr deathlords uses a disarm shout? Seriously it takes me 10 minutes or more every time to find my weapon cause of the f***ing physics engine. Wish the weapon just spawned in my inventory after the shout.

Hahaha, it's is annoying but I love it. It's like that one moment during a fight when I think "damn... nice move." I love it. The first weapon I dropped from that I never did find.

But, you know that you can learn that shout right? It's just as much fun to use against your enemies as it is frustrating to have it used against you.

I think it's fine. It makes those encounters harder and more interesting. And when they disarm me, I get pissed and encase them in ice, or hurl them away with unrelenting force. I kind of like it because it feels like the enemy is powerful and ancient and not just another weakling for me to slaughter effortlessly.

Yeah I seriously did a grid search of the entire room trying to find my ebony war axe once, spent 20 minutes trying to find it, I swear it falls through the ground or something and disappears into oblivion. in the end I gave up and reloaded,

One of my best "Ach Schei?e!" moments in Skyrim was when that happened to me. Draugr Deathlord disarmed me of my battleaxe in some tall ferns and I was running in circles trying to not get killed and pick up my weapon. Also, you can only imagine my face when one used the full-on Unrelenting Force on me and sent me flying.

I have to carry extra weapons for this reason alone.

As annoying as it is, it definitely adds to the tension of combat if you have no backup weapon with you.

Oh, my character would be distraught if this happened. I haven't run into one of those Draghurs yet, I'm glad.

Argh, this shout drives me insane. I've had to reload saves from first entering the dungeon because my weapons are nowhere to be found. I can deal with having to change weapons for the fight, but spending 15+ minutes looking for my dark blade in a dark dungeon filled with piles of junk drives me mental.

It doesn't help that when you get hit by Unrelenting Force, the interface says you're dead.

I know right? Rather not have the shout than deal with this sh*t. There should be a summon spell or something grr..

I lost my magic bow this way. I guess someone needs to figure out a shout of re-arming. Try reversing the words!

It's nice that your enemies can be just as strong and tricky as you can be, adds to the experience, really.

As for me, I've been shouted all over the halls and been sent flying all about, but I've yet to ever lose my weapon.

Aaa, I can remember the first time that happened to me...

Me: *Slowly beating down draugr-boss*

Draugr: *Disarm Shout*

Me: *Sends Steel enchanted axe flying*

Draugr: Ha! Now I kill you!

Me: *Pulls out Dwarven Sword I kept because it was cool and continue beatdown*

Draugr: D=

The moral of the story is keeping around stuff that is, in 99% of situations, useless, can totally pay off sometimes =)

Pff, I got the shout at ca. lvl 20 and every enemy that would be worth using it on is "too strong" for it.

The issue isn't the tactical ramifications of being disarmed, it's the fact that your weapon gets flung into the most obscure corner possible, and sometimes out of the level entirely.

If I were designing this, I would have made that shout rip the weapon out of the target's hand and put it in your inventory. So if you get disarmed by a draugr, after you kill it then it will be carrying your weapon.

Though, the entire concept of draugr using the Voice is questionable in itself. Are we to assume that there's roughly a billion Dragonborn from another age, and they all hate our guts for no reason?

I've fought several Draugr Overlords and their big-brother boss kin, but never been disarmed by the shouts; now, I play as a sneaky Archer so I usually get them before they can unleash one, but when they do manage it it doesn't dislodge my bow. I have no idea whether or not this is intended; if it is, then that's just stupid on the face of it, since these things hit like a truck and melee types have to eat that pounding to kill them unless they have select Shouts unlocked.
