Discrepancy between minimum graphics requirements

Hey,

Theres a big discrepancy in the amount of GPU power required across ATI and NVIDA. In the minimum requirements, it says: NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti 2GB OR AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB

But if we compare the two (http://www.hwcompare.com/12203/geforce-gtx-550-ti-vs-radeon-hd-7870/) the HD 7870 is significantly faster by no small margin. Are the ATI Minimum GPU requirements highly inflated?

Also, do you think I will run the game reasonably at 1080p? Would like to play on high with some medium such as shadows. Just worried about the graphics card really but will be upgrading in a month or so.

Processor: Intel? Core? i7-4790 Processor (3.6 GHz, 8 MB cache)
RAM:16 GB DDR3
Graphics card: AMD Radeon R9 270X (2 GB GDDR5)
Storage: 3 TB HDD
Motherboard: Intel Z87
Operating system: Windows 8.1 64 bit

Thanks

There is a thread for asking if your rig can run the game, so ask that there: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1541422-unofficial-will-my-pc-run-fallout-4-thread-6- why they don't just pin the dang thread so people can actually see it is beyond me, it's created each time by moderators after all.

As far as the discrepancy between the two brands, I believe it's either because the game is utilizing nVidia's GameWorks which makes their hardware more useful leaving ATI at a disadvantage, or because Bethesda doesn't know what the hell they're doing when it comes to determining minimum and recommended hardware so they're talking out their rectums. I'm going to go with both, for sure.

How many steps down from that card could they really go? Just looking at that link, it doesn't look like you can go very far before you run neck to neck with the nvidia options. They could just be factoring in AMDs shoddy driver support and giving themselves room to work with.

And then as nate said, there is the whole gameworks thing. Which works better on nvidia cards.

Wait, does GameWorks even work with ATI at all? Because GameWorks is nVidia's technology, I don't think that they'd make it compatible for their competitor.

Not really, the performance difference is like 1:2 with worst possible result among benchmarks for AMD and can go up to near 1:3 for best. It'd be on Bethesda if they skewed the results by that much, no other game ever did.
