Discuss the new Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim trailer here! (THREA

Post » Mon Jan 24, 2011 7:22 pm

  • Finishing moves.
  • One-hit stealth kills.
  • Improved 1st person camera.
  • Title track a mix of Oblivion and Morrowind (awesomeness).
  • Improved water and physics (yet hopefully they fine tune the fluid graphics, it looked a bit too plastic).
  • Dragon Shout. Still a little apprehensive about it. Just seems like a "Herbert's Weirding" ripoff. But I must say it was somewhat impressive.
  • Improved particle effects.
  • Near impossible landscape to negotiate, but jaw-dropping gorgeous.
  • NPCs aware/interacting with environment.
  • Minstrel/musician/bard?

Probably the single best trailer I have seen produced by Bethesda. Great job guys! :goodjob:

are you done complaining for the rest of the year?

Take a happy pill or something. Not complaining, just observations. I'm pretty ecstatic, but nice try trying to ruining that... Oh well...

I did not see dynamic shadows on this list. Because F**K YEAH, finally.

ON the topic of bright nights, Have you ever played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. because once that game hits night you can't see s**t. Literally Pitch black.

Sorry, forgot about the shadows, but yeah they look pretty awesome too.
No, not much STALKER, but I use mods to get better (darker) ambiance, but I'm a big fan of Arma2 (very realism oriented) that features painfully dark nights especially during storms and/or no moon. Don't think that level of darkness would be suitable here, it just appears that there is no real need for using lights again. In unmodded Oblivion you get by much to easy without any lights or spells.

As for this:
Issue #4 - Dragon Shouts
The Dragon Shout was awesome. I watched it over and over again, and it gave me chills. I cannot wait to do it in game, and to play this game in general. It's going to be awesome. But I digress; the dragon shout was weak. It felt a little un important, just like a battle shout. When a Nord screams, people hear it. It's a DRAGON shout though. Where's the bass? Where's the draconic influence? I was expecting some deep rumbling voice to come out of you when you did a Dragon Shout. This really needs to be the case.

I get the feeling the shout is done a bit "by accident", note how the "shout travels" and probably reaches those who will teach you more on who you are. I don't think it should be "bassy", wouldn't feel right for a petite female at all. It's a *shout*, something verbal where regocnizable language is a part, not a frantic roar.

If I'm going to complain about something, it is when character looks down, he still get this really weird offset of "hand graphics" and no feet. That's a big disappointment. Hope they do something about it.

I had to laugh at the dragon shout. It sounded like a Soul Calibur bit part extra badmouthing his spiky heaired opponent. Other than that, well, Pretty standard. I want to see actual gameplay, until then, there's not much here to go on.

The dragon shout where the Orchestra kicks in was pure awesomeness.

Some things looked great in the trailer, really liked how the mountains and the fog, etc looked. Along with the actual lighting/shadows when you see the guy going through the forest.

However also noticed the low res textures and the water graphics which hopefully arle just not finished yet.

One thing I was disappointed in was the snow, I thought they were talking about dynamic snow, etc? The snow in teh trailer had NO depth at all, just a generic looking white texture. I hope they can have depth to it and leave actaul footprints/blood in the snow, if they can even get close to the snow in Uncharted 2 it would be amazing.

It's probably because I knew it was coming, knew that it existed, and because we've seen plenty of screens, but this trailer didn't have the same "OMG SKYRIM IS COMING" effect that the teaser did on me.

Or maybe it's because I'm burning myself out on Skyrim deliberately to make the wait shorter.

Either way, trailer still looks awesome. I love the first "new" segment of music (not the teaser music, but when the dragon first attacks, before Fus Ro Dah). And, of course, the theme is amazing.

Strangely I found the best part of that trailer to be the music, not that that is a slight against the gameplay but the music is that awesome! You can hear the elements of the MW theme and near the end of the trailer, the oblivion theme when the dragon soul is absorbed and a definite Skyrim bit in the middle with the amazing nordic chanting.

also did anyone notice the Nirn root looking thing in the back ground of the scene with the finishing move in 1st person mode? (the guy that got a dagger through the belly)

Bethesda:

Don't just release this game, make a patch, release a few DLCs, release an expansion and with that a patch, and then quit supporting the game.

As you already know, gamers are playing your "old" games even today (thinking of Morrowind and Oblivion mainly), if you can fix errors and improve the game over a few years, do so! I know (and it's common sense) that there is no profit in supporting a 10 year old game with new patches, although a few game studios still do so. But PLEASE do not abandon the game after 2 years.

This goes for both consoles and the PC.

The trailer was very well done indeed. I liked the combat anims and the blood splatter when he sliced the dragon, hopefully that will make it into the full game. I hope that the dragons won't be as numerous as the OB gates though, don't want it to become a chore as someone said in another thread. As for low res graphics I don't believe that will be a problem at release. Now if only we had crossbows and spears...

Hi everybody! I had to register when I saw this trailer. Pure awsomeness!
I hear alot of people talking about the water, but when you see it in other scenes, it doesnt look so bad. For example, the man who walks in the village, the waterfall in the cave with zombies :)
Anyway, the game I have had the most fun with in my life was Oblvion, so this is the game I look forward to most this year, maybe ever ;)

Wholehearthy agree. You've to already be kind of awesome to use that cinematic resource, and Bethesda can afford that.

However also noticed the low res textures and the water graphics which hopefully arle just not finished yet.

I agree on the water, but the textures were not SO low res...I saw no flaws with them (and I'm a good graphics' addict).

That's really what you think? Todd already said they aren't doing better graphics for the PC version. He said he'll let us put the game in a higher res and that's it. Same as Oblivion. Look at 360 Oblivion and PC Oblivion? What's the difference? There is none.

Have you not done much gaming on the PC? Oblivion looks loads better on my PC then it does on the 360 version, even without any mods installed. If I remember correctly, Todd said they are focusing on getting the game done first, then they may add some more features etc to the PC version. Even if they don't though, just having higher res and AA will for sure make the PC look better. It's always been that way.

Looks ok but......Doctored,They let you see what you wanted to see, It lacked more "In Gmae" then anything. It was more how i say it "Staged" for a lack of a better word,I would like to see more "In Game" than a movie trailer.
