Discuss the new Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim trailer here! (THREA

Post » Sun Jan 23, 2011 7:23 pm

Er.. they really don't. They're EXTREMELY low res, as is everything in the game. Look at the stills, it looks like the armor is melded into the arm with a few flecks of black in it.

And everyone needs to stop acting like that dragon fight was in game footage. That may have been in game graphics but all the panting, swinging was done for cinematic purposes. That was more like a cut scene. Not gameplay.

I think people are just insane. The texture work looks top notch. Maybe not Crysis good, but easily on par with other AAA games. And there are going to be 20x as many textures in this game compared to those. The water looks great, especially those waterfalls in the caves.

I don't know what people were expecting. We saw the screens. We knew this was going to be released on current consoles. Yet people are complaining that the game doesn't look completely different from the media already released? That's called living in fantasy land. By the standards of almost every other game getting released this year, Skyrim looks jawdropping.

Just a quick still I managed; I wanted to get a better look at what exactly the character was swinging at the spider. Looks like a mighty fearsome mace there, bladed. Oh...and an unpleasant closeup of the spider in the process. Blegh!

Sorry, That would be impossible.

You just go around and say something against anybody who mentions the graphics are awesome... Frankly I don't care, I'd play this even if it had the same graphics as Morrowind, it's TES, the gameplay is the most important after all...

You're right, I will. People saying "it'll get better by release" is being unrealistic, so I'm helping them not inflate their hopes. The graphics ARE low res, and they'll stay that way it seems. But you're right, let's hope there's a proportion to graphics and gameplay. Morrowind had worse graphics than Oblivion but better gameplay, maybe with Bethesda focusing less on graphics now we'll get a less dissapointing game than Oblivion was :P

Um, did you just not bother to read what I said? The two versions look exactly the same. Why would they film it with a 360 if a PC would have given a prettier trailer? This forum lacks logic sometimes :P

Lol, you're such a goof, just stop talking. Your opinion is not objective, stop stating it as so. We get it, you're not impressed.

You can stop your wailing, now that the trailer's been confirmed to be 360 footage. I'm sure the master race version will delight your senses with the super, megaplex, nuclear, orgismic textures you desperately seek.

That's not going to happen. Just look at his posting history.

I'm delighted to see how much footage they showed and it looks great. Thanks! :D

I didn't read your post because I don't care. The game is nine months away and it all looks fine.

Yet, you felt the need to comment? way to go..

Maybe they didn't want to do the same mistake of overselling their product this time? Who knows.

The windmil shot is rather lovely. It reminds me of a Bruegel, or a Constable. I hope horses stay in - even if it's only Bill the pack pony (need somewhere to stow my loot).

I liked the trailer, low res Xbox textures and all. I don't know if it's the music or what, but it feels like a TES game. Makes me want to re-instal Morrowind and Oblivion - that should keep me going until November! :)

Thanks! Very cool trailer.

I especially liked the way all the citizens seemed to be doing somthing and not just walking around mindlessly.
Also, I bet the hero character is quite cold up in the snowy mountains with a sleeveless shirt.

Or.....BGS just doesn't want to show the PC version yet.

That's really what you think? Todd already said they aren't doing better graphics for the PC version. He said he'll let us put the game in a higher res and that's it. Same as Oblivion. Look at 360 Oblivion and PC Oblivion? What's the difference? There is none.

Epic trailer.

Loved so many things, especially the town/city perched on the arch over the river with castle on the hill above. Such a dramatic landscape.

Yeah, the trailer was shot using the 360 -- other than the pre-rendered shots of Alduin's Wall that you've already seen in the announcement trailer.

That being said, iIt's looking really sharp on PS3 and PC, too :hubbahubba:

Sigged so that hopefully people won't have to be constantly giving others links to this thread.

That being said, this game looks amazing on the 360. Some of the textures aren't the best I've seen, but that doesn't really matter so much when your sitting further than 2 feet away from your screen. Also, the animations look really good, the sound effects are excellent, and really, the few close-up textures that are being focused on don't actually prevent the overall look of the game from being completely amazing. I can't wait to play this game, it's going to be awesome.

Amazing.

I'll admit, the graphics aren't as big of a jump from Oblivion as was Oblivion from Morrowind, but who cares? It still looks fantastic.

Dragon shout looks amazing. Hell, EVERYTHING looks amazing.

Todd said that working with the 360 is alot smoother, so It would only make sense to film it on the 360 to fit more in.

Does that mean the PC will look better?????

You can't possibly be that obtuse. I refuse to believe it :banghead:

Newsflash - several Oblivion trailers were console footage, too. Did you think the released product looked "exactly the same" on the PC and 360? Think carefully, now, you probably want to take a minute to get this one correct.

*sigh* Now I remember why I stopped frequenting this forum years ago.

I think they are!

Real-time Shadows on everything and Self-Shadowing are 2 things that Oblivion did not have and Skyrim looks all the better for it.

Here's what I liked...

1) The camera shake when running and the breathing.
2) The visible breath (cold weather)
3) The dragon shout
4) The blood getting on the character
5) The music

Here's the negatives that I saw...

........... . . . . . .

Yeah, pretty majestic stuff. Loved the head-bob and heavy breathing effects during the run through the woods. Really hope this appears in the game. I liked it when the Dovakhin (in first person mode) was about to stumble over a precipice and had to steady himself with his hands - again, hope that this wasn't just a cinematic thing for this trailer, and is actually in-game as well.

The town with the mill, which feature a rock arch stretching out into the sea, looked fantastic. And the general animation, from the dragon flying to the scurrying wolf is genuinely streets ahead from anything we've seen in a TES game before.

My first though about the white water rapids wasn't some miserly concern over the quality of the water effects, rather the deafening sound of rushing water that they've got spot on!

And the tavern had a Lute player. A smeggin' Lute! Get in!!! :celebration:

It was filmed on the 360 because they build the game on the 360 first then move any additions over to the other platforms.
