Discuss the new Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim trailer here! (THREA

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:24 pm

I doubt it. They probably just wanted to show the thing along with the pretty cave without having to bother with getting monsters in the exact right position to be hit. :P

Lol, your probably right, though i would like a staff like the one i mentioned.

I loved the trailer to death, but if it is in-game, the main character guy has a weapon in both hands and uses a dragon shout, so does that mean there will be no more grabbing objects?

could someone answer me please, would appreciate it, if dragon shout and sprint get their own buttons, and magic button was the only one snipped, does that mean object grab is also being ousted?

EDIT: i love the water.

Yea the pc is shooting the staff at nothing though? There is no enemy. And the flying part is just from the dragons point of view. They show the player running and then the dragon hunting its prey (which is you). That's not the player actually flying.

Maybe the staff is non-combat? like some kind of light orb that sticks to the wall or something of that sort/

I wanna cast...Magic missile!
Why do you want to cast magic missile, there's nothing to attack here.
I...I'm attacking the darkness!

It was clearly a shout out to us D&D nerds :geek: :D

Damn. I saw the trailer when it came out and just now I post about it. I must have watched it, like, hundreds of times by now. Amazing, and with really amazing music.

This was a pretty disappointing day for me. Today more than ever, nothing seemed to go right. The bad luck in everything I did was getting annoying. Well it doesn't matter. This made my day.

The camera shakes when the giants move.
The dragon fights look epic
Graphics are vastly improved
Gameplay looks very fluid
Mountains look fantastic
How the [censored] can I rate such an epic trailer
So much other stiff like bustling towns and vastly improved npc animations

The only nitpick I had with the trailer was no beast races or orcs in it, but otherwise it was epic

Best trailer ever. There's so much everyone has already mentioned a thousand times over and over, so why bother, I even saw saddled horses and boats in the trailer, decapitation and awesome new stuff, I couldnt be more excited, the last shot of the mountains looked unreal, unreal as in great. This will be the best game ever.

Do we know whether that video was shot on a PC or not? That shadow and the general quality of those graphics seemed too good to be something that would run on a PS3 and I'm worried the graphics won't be that good when I actually play the game for myself. I'm genuinely stunned by how amazing those graphics look.

100% sure it was shot on the 360, it was mentioned by Bethesda several times... makes it even more amazing. :hubbahubba:

Todd said that all the versions look the same. PC has more anti aliasing but thats it. Higher rez textures are not noticeable he says.

Really?! Truly?! Was it just prettied up for the trailer or something? Will the framerate be sluggish? This is unbelievable!

They're not noticeable to the consoles, because most console players don't sit a foot away from their screen like a PC player does with their monitor. But I assure you, high-res textures are VERY noticeable from that distance.
And he's on record in the GI podcast as saying the PC always ships with higher-res textures.

Well things are definitely choreographed in the trailer, but AFAIK Nick and Pete are on record saying that everything save the pre-rendered Alduin Wall is in-game, and that everything that happened in the in-game portions has the potential to happen during standard gameplay.

I did my happy dance this morning when I saw it! I squealed like the pathetic fangirl I am, waking my poor husband, and proceeded to watch it repeatedly all day long (at work on my phone haha!)

That was the most epic, chill-inducing moment that gave me heart palpitations. I know now that I love the dragonshout. That's what it is, isn't it? :)

The other favorite part of the trailer! :D

I'm still spazing out aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

All that footage was from the 360 read the first post! Secondly, it wasn't prettied up and neither was the draw distance, safe to say it should look that good if not better on the PS3 since the PS3 is more powerful, and on PC well the sky's the limit! Can't wait to play it on my 52 inch FullHD Sony Bravia :)

A few things:

1.) Definitely shot all in game on the 360. (Not counting the wall footage from the teaser trailer of course.)

2.) I don't believe that the plant in question is a Nirnroot. If you look closely you'll see an identical plant slightly further away, and to the right of the screen. It's only visible for the last few frames of that shot, but it's definitely there. I doubt they'd place two Nirnroots so close together...

3.) The woman in the tavern is either a Bosmer or an Altmer. It's pretty much impossible to know for sure. Also I dunno whether anyone noticed, but in that same shot, the barmaid is a Dunmer... Only visible for the first couple of frames.

4.) In the shot with the windmill and the natural cliff outcrop, there are birds flying around. There's also a bird flying above the fort in the background of the troll shot. I hope we can actually kill these birds with projectiles, and that they sometimes land/perch like real birds.

5.) I agree that the water in that cascading shot looks pretty bad, but in some other shots it looks quite good. When the robed man walks through town, there is a mill on the left with some pretty nice water effects. Also in the cave when the player casts a light spell from a staff in his left hand, the waterfall on the right looks quite good IMO. I'm sure Beth will address the animation/texture for rapids though since that seems to be the #1 complaint.

I'm in the process of uploading my own album of snapshots. Source = the high definition trailer from ES.com, snapshots taken in VLC... Should be the absolute highest quality available right now. I'm thinking about anolyzing all 28 of the screens in my album. Would anyone be interested in reading that, or would it fall on "blind eyes"?
