I actually got chills when he shouted at the dragon, that was pulled of really good. And though I don't mean to complain, but when the hell will the song in the trailer be available for download or something? It sounds a lot better than anything in Oblivion, more majestic really.

A little disappointed that Skyrim is going to be about the same size as Oblivion, call me crazy, but I always felt like Oblivion was too small.

Yes I admit it's large in the grand scheme of things, but so much of that space is really just wilderness which, yes I know there are caves, didn't really have anything to do with the game. All you could do in the wilderness was wander around encountering creature after creature and eventually die, or find caves, kill enemies, loot gold, and repeat. It really did start to end up with 'You've seen one cave, you've seem them all...'.

Oblivion was big, but the places were way too repetitive, so I must agree with you. The lack of differences and original things in the game, make it feel small.

I know it's hard to tell, but to me Skyrim looks bigger. Even though it is about the same size as Oblivion, the fog and mountains which block the view give the illusion of grandeur. Also they have said there will be a variety of landscapes compared to Oblivion's samey scenery, which I think will also give the feeling of a much vaster province.

My overall impression of the trailer was very good.

Did anyone else notice one of the bones on the giant's clothes wobbled when he walked?

I love little details like that

A little video someone shared with me. Basically they pause and rewind and talk about the official trailer, it's more for people that haven't been following it I think though. Anyone who has won't learn anything new.

Awesome trailer.

Anybody else think that the sound effect accompanying the dragon shout was a little too "pew-pew/laser-gun"-ish?

One thing I really haven't seen mentioned (granted, I don't sit here and read the forums all day), is the guy in the background playing an instrument during the stealth kill.

I really hope that means the atmosphere, particularly in taverns, is a lot better this time around. Always hated walking into a tavern in Oblivion/Morrowind and it being as quiet as a tomb....

Only thing they have stated is the size nt the amount of depth or unique areas.

So hold your fingers until you play the game. If you noticed and hopefully your not blind the detail you can see in some of the dungeons. Like the spider fight, the steam punk esque dwemer ruins, and the old tombs of Draugrs?

Of course this is a trailer only showcasing the highlights of the game and areas. But still I'm certain they've learned from the copy/paste method.

(snip)

General observations:
(snip)

- No destructible environments (that was to be expected)

(snip)

I agree that it was to be expected that there wouldn't be any since it's a tall order, but I DISAGREE that there aren't any. I believe there are several proofs for the possibility of deformations:

1. Fire deformations were already confirmed.
2. In the Autumn forest "hunting" scene, we see a tree on the right-hand side that's been snapped in half, obviously broken (deformed) ... by something. Did a large creature crack it apart like that?
3. When the dragon crashes in the new trailer, if you slow it down, you can see the top layer of soil being scraqed away and later, you can see a huge pile of soil apparently haven been pushed forward along with the dragon. Obviously some parts are clearly deformable. We just don't know if it's only these dragon crashes that produce said deformations, or if we the player can somehow cause them at will, too.
4. Water appears to flow dynamically based on the cave scene in the new trailer, how it flows suggests dynamic water motion. This would only be important if they wanted water to change with other changes and flow realistically due to those changes ... perhaps indicating ground deformations will also possibly affect water flowing over that terrain.

I don't know why you were so quick to confirm your suspicions about deformations when so much evidence already exists for the possibility that the system is more detailed than we previously knew. But I agree with the rest of your findings, and found them valuable. So thanks.

My opinion to the Skyrim trailer is similar to what I felt about Dragon Age 2 demo. For a sequel, I expect to see some visual improvements over its predecessor, but all I see is what look like Oblivion with better shaders. I have seen Xbox 360 games with better water physics, better shaders, so the problem does not lay with the console. Just disappointed. :sadvaultboy:

Hopefully, the textures will be improved, because really, that's about the only thing in the trailer that looked kind of rough, If you look carefully, every texture in the trailer appears to be lower or equal in resolution to Oblivion. I suspect that's due to memory on the consoles, and hopefully that will get resolved. Even with the low res textures, though; the game footage was impressive.

I've studied the trailer fairly carefully, and I'm actually impressed with the improvements. The trees were amazing - in several scenes, you can see them swaying in the wind realistically. The rapids, while not great looking, do feature splashing that wasn't present in previous games. The actual water itself can probably be fixed with a better texture. Likewise with the Dwemer ruins. The subtle steam effect was very nice, even if the textures were a bit bland. (that could have been lighting, though)

One of the most promising things I saw was the cavern being lit with magic. (the first sequence, with the blue crystal in the background) It appears that the Oblivion lighting issues have been largely fixed. The cavern was very dark prior to the magical effects lighting it up, and that is a good sign. It means that lighting is going to be important again. The second sequence with the fireball was also impressive. Spell effects have been stepped up a notch.

Also, I really liked the ability to dual-wield both spells and weapons. This will make playing a spell-sword doable for once.

Over all, it looks like the console version. Most of the low-res texture issues won't be a problem on a screen several feet away. Todd already stated that the PC version will get higher res textures, so this may be a moot issue.

What we didn't see, and I am hoping is present, is dynamic water that actually pushes things. It would be nice to see animals/NPC's/you dragged down a raging river. We also didn't see any environmental hazards, which I'm also hoping for. (specifically, hypothermia and snow blindness)

Wow! I just watched it for the first time and I got goosebumps! Skyrim is going to be EPIC and I plan on not only buying the game, but I gotta have the sountrack! Jeremy Soule has outdone himself!

BTW, hearing the Oblivion theme again sure brought back memories. :)
