Discussion - Random Encounter Locations(SPOILERS)

Post » Sat Jan 09, 2016 3:02 pm

Particularly due to the 4 level 4 merchants, but also in aid of seeing all the randomness FO4 has to offer, I've been gathering the following list of locations known for random encounters. These can range from mini quests, to random treasure hints, to actual benefits to your growing community, plus coolness.

Some of the following is from my own experience, some are from others that I have tested.

+Starlight Drive In - From your original fast travel point, turn around, and look under the railroad bridge. You may have to move a bit past the wreck. If you don't see anything directly under the bridge, move on. This is one of the best spots in the game, imo, for random spawns.

+Arcjet Systems - From yer FT point, turn around, and head to the statue, go to the left corner. Look to the wrecked overpass, if you don't see anyone(use VATS), then move on.

+Cambridge Police Station - When you spawn in from FT, go straight, then go thru the alley to yer right, turm left, and follow the road unti you see a fallen billboard. Move into the picnic table area, and use VATS to search for likely suspects.

+Mass. Pike Interchange - From yer FT arrival point, look right. Below you on the road shoud be an encounter, this is one that seems to proc a lot. Seems to usually be a combat, but have had non combat encounters here as well.

+Hyde Park - Turn and look at the church, typically a fight.

+BADTFL Regional Office - Turn a bit left from yer FT arrival point, then look left up the street, prolly gonna be a fight.

+Covenant - Head right while facing out from the gate, follow the road until you can go right, then follow that road until you come to the dead Brahmins

+Tenpines Bluff - Head NE from yer FT point, and when you get to the top of the cliff, look down for the destroyed house, odds are something is hanging out there. You should prolly kill it.

+Medtek Research - Just follow the road East(never worked for me, but has worked for other lucky folk)

+Mass Fusion Containment Shed - Campsite with a fire and a truck a bit left of yer FT point, never worked for me, but loads of other folks swear by it.

+Suffolk County Charter School - Be warned, nothing but bad happens here.

+Relay Tower OMC-810 - Head for the white car by the nearby road to the East.

+Union Hope Cathedral - It's not marked, but between the Admin buiding and the Red Rocket is a sweet spot.

+Cambridge Polymer Labs - Absolutely one of the best spawn points in the game; turn left from yer FT point, and follow the road to yer right until you pass the lawnmower, then turn around, and head back the way you came. You may also trigger an encounter a bit past the lawnmower, though it's likely to be a fight. Found Smiling Larry here.

+Relay Tower OFC-527 - A bit SE is a campsite, found Doc Anderson here.

Keep in mind that the spawns are seemingly random at these points, but some points seem to spawn certain types of encounters more frequently, I'll leave it to y'all to figger that out.

If you have a verified spawn point for random encounters, please add it.

That would be great.

I found only 2 location - it was on sniper spots at 2 billboards - 1 at the road to Concord from Drive-in and 2nd on the road to Zimonja post I think.

There is one south (roughly) of Walden Pond right next to a blue tent-thing. I met the lvl 4 doc there (before I could recruit her of course) and i got random encounters with super mutans and raiders.

The real question is not where their spwan points are but if the level 4 merchants can be killed by all those creatures everywhere. I almost always hear someone fight when I walk around but I rarley even find the source of the noise.

I would also like to know if they can spawn more than one time.

Despite being already on my second character I have not gotten any of the random lvl 4s. I only met the scribe before and he never showed up in any of my settlements.

Thanks for the additions, I'll be checking them shortly. I think I may have stumbled on the one near Walden once before, had forgotten it completely.

As for the level 4 vendors, I had encountered Doc Anderson once before, also early game before I could recruit her, but can't remember exactly where it was. I "think" it was at the campsite near Concord, but haven't ever had another encounter there, so not positive. But, regardless, it seems that the level 4s do respawn.

I've recruited both Smiling Larry and Doc Anderson, but yea, neither ever showed up. I'm wondering if not having an empty shop available could be a reason for this, so have built an extra one of each shop at Sanctuary in case I manage to find them again.

I've gotten in the habit of making at least one run through all of the sites per session, always end up with at least a pile of good loot, and have sparked several minor quests.

I found quite a few random encounters at Med-Tek, Cambridge Polymer Labs and a few others but after a while they seemed to stop spawning at all my usual spots. I found that sleeping in one of my settlements for seven days started them spawning again. I'd guess this resets them or something, so if you're having trouble finding encounters then you might want to try it.
