Diseases to make a return?

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 3:40 pm

Are most diseases going to return? And will there be a healing spell to heal them? (i wasnt much of a restoration guy so there may already be one :read:)
I'd like to see some type of debilitating diseases that blur your vision or go into a delusional state

Diseases are confirmed, but I too would like to see some more serious effects.

See the demo video when the player is attacked by wolves. He contracts a disease. [Upper right corner]

Well, Vampirism is a disease, and Vanpirism has been confirmed to be in, so I'm going to say that it's a "yes."

I'd like to see some serious diseases that are more difficult to get rid of than fast-travel to town and click on an altar.

Excellent idea, maybe require some herb gathering. Kind of like a scaled down vampire cure quest because I despised that :cryvaultboy:

Something akin to Blight Diseases in Morrowind, or even deeper?

I'm thinking of teaching myself some scripting so I can make a mod that makes it so you don't get a prompt telling you you're diseased, and the onset of symptoms is gradual. When it gets to be full-blown you get a prompt telling you you're not feeling well, and then you can go and see your disease in the stats menu. It would make it so you can actually become a vampire on accident, too.

It would be nice if you don't know if you're diseased - you just feel the affects of it. To see if you are diseased and which disease it is you need to talk with a healer. It would be also great if there's no standard medicine (cure disease potion) which cures all diseases. Praying on altar to cure all diseases was also too easy way to get rid of them. I'd like to see all diseases to be more like the corpus disease in Morrowind: it's affects continued growing and there was only a specific way to cure it.

I hope they are in and more like Morrowind. I think IMO they were broke in many ways in Oblivion. I rarely ever had a disease in TES 4 even the vampirism. Unless I intentionally let a vampire do it........

I agree that diseases were too easy to get rid of in Morrowind. My idea is to make the treatment of diseases not instant, but gradually. Like real medicine; take this potion every day for a week and you'll be cured.

Another excellent idea, maybe if you let it go too long without treatment you'd slowly black out and wake up in a bed with a priest nursing you back to health.

Sigh, Not a big fan of diseases myself. I wonder what they will do now that they have not Strength, speed etc to decrease. I guess maybe just the three primaries.

I just hope there isn't a stupid quest to get rid of the vampirism disease because I do not want to be one in Skyrim, any other disease is welcome to have a quest involved cure if they want it too.

Ehhh... while it might add to the 'realism', I know personally I'd be like ''WHAT THE %#@$'' if I go to sleep after fighting an enemy and it says ''You are now a vampire''. While it could be cool to not have a ''You have contracted [x]'' message, I say it should always appear in the effects menu, even if the 'symptoms' are slow to appear. The first time I ever died in Oblivion was because I was a vampire, and I was trying to cure myself and got stuck in the frickin' wilderness in full sunlight.

As for diseases having to have specific quests to cure them, or being permanent or any of that - I say no, just no. Vampirism can have a quest to cure it, since that's a ''major'' disease, but for anything else, it'd just ruin it.

I don't want to have to run to town or do some damn quest every 5 hours of gameplay because I have this disease now or that disease, and ''oh, you're now dying slowly, or can't do this that and the other thing because YOU HAD [x] DIEASE AND YOU DIDN'T KNOW! HA HA!''.

Just... no.

*shudder*

Was too busy fighting off bandits to look at myself in 3rd person, but the disease took away some lockpicking skill and some other stuff that i have unfortunatley forgotten

Actually I like your idea of blurred vision etc but I'd like them to be rarer if they are a bigger problem. If it was abig deal and more interesting but quite rare and not just an annoyance , I'd like diseases more. Now what I really hated was the "Damage attribute" spells myself. those I hope vanished the Attributes but bet we'll have "damage magicka" etc still.

Why stop there? In addition to Health, Magicka, and Stamina decreased, we could get creative and make diseases that partially blind you, lower your run/walk speed, mildly damage you every time you attack, cast a spell, or sprint (representing joint or muscle pain/fragility), or automatically stagger you when you move (representing nausea or disorientation).
