Disguises and Uniforms

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:35 am

In New Vegas, players could equip the armor of the Legion and other factions in order to disguise themselves. Characters would respond to the player as if they were a member of this faction. I was very pleased with this feature, and if it hasn't already been confirmed, would like to suggest its inclusion in Skyrim and see what the forum thinks of it.

I love the idea, though it was in Oblivion(kinda). Seems like a reasonable idea.

I had mixed feelings on the disguises of New Vegas. I liked that you would be identified with that faction, which is realistic. On the other hand, I was a good character but I liked the Legion's armor. I wanted to use the Legion's armor, but didn't want to be recognized as part of that faction. I guess I just didn't like how I would be idolized by the NCR, then when I put on a set of Legion armor, it would say "neutral" or "hated." In Skyrim, I'd like to wear armor with no penalties to other factions, OR be able to wear any armor and still be recognized by the factions that like me.

It was? When? Or do you mean when you infiltrate the Mythic Dawn? That doesn't really count, sense it was for the Main Quest and setup.

First, NV was NOT developed by Bethesda. Second, NV svcked big. Third, who would you disguise yourself as?

Why not an emblem after you customize it and you where part of another factions armer so they hesitate to shoot but they are warry?

I was thinking something along those lines as well. The idea of an emblem is better than what I had been thinking though...

God I hated disguises in NV. If I wanted to wear NCR armor and role-play, it svcked because I would temporarily lose all my rep with the NCR and instead of them recognizing my achievments and who I was, I was just another grunt

First, even though this point is almost entirely irrelevant, NV used the same engine as FO3 and Oblivion, which were developed by Bethesda.

Second, unless this mechanic somehow affected that opinion of yours, this point is irrelevant.

Third, the Dark Brotherhood, remnants of the Imperial Legion, whatever guard uniforms aome cities might have, etc. I mean, if you've played an ES game, you know there are plenty of factions you could pretend to be a part of.

You could pass off in disguise in the Shivering Isles as either a Heretic or a Fanatic to other Heretics and Fanatics if you wore their robes.

I like the disguise system in New Vegas. It'd be cool to see it implemented in Skyrim.

Ha I did something like this in Oblivion, never really got past the beta stage tho... here is a http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=4831

The actual going in and out of the factions works fine and dandy, I was just too lazy to bug test it for most of the quests lol. Maybe I will finish it someday, or hell I can just remake it for Skyrim if they don't put it in.

I like this idea... Maybe there could be some kind of recognition factor built into the NPCs. And putting on certain things like a guard uniform, or even a mask, would reduce or eliminate their ability to recognize you. Maybe there could even be spells and potions that change your appearance. Once disguised, you could commit crimes without raising your bounty... or if your bounty is high, you could use your disguise to slip by the guards unnoticed.

In Morrowind, if you wore ordinator armour, the real ordinators would recognize you as an imposter and attack you.
Even after youve stopped wearing it. For the rest of the game.

It would be fun to have different reactions from NPC's in regard to what clothes you wear.
"Hey goldenrod! Wouldnt a high elf like you rather wear a robe than that armour?'

The factions in Skyrim most likey won't be at each others throats for survival purposes, post hoc ergo proptor hoc, unnecessary

I think it'd be cool, but I would make so you have to wear everything that the faction you're trying to be disguised as wears before it'll work. Even so far as to require that their common weapons be equipped. It'd be annoying to get some faction's cool armor, but wearing a couple pieces of it makes a bunch of people hate you. It should require at least a certain percentage of the uniform to be worn.

They attacked you because you got too close. As long as you didn't get too close, they wouldn't bother you. However, if you walked up to them they would see that you weren't one of them and attack.

edit: I forgot to post my thoughts on the topic. I like the disguises. That was one thing that New Vegas had that I wish FO3 would have had. Im not sure about having it in Skyrim. I won't judge until I try it though, that is, if it is a feature in the game of course.

No disguises..This is a RPG, meaning I decide what clothing means. Just because I have a black desert duster doesn't mean I'm a NCR ranger.

Disguises should be determined by brands or crests. Something official, or something forged, or something invented.
This way clothing would remain untouched, but with an added replaceable slot.

I did not like the way that there was a chart representing factions. If factions are in then no chart or UI that tells you how you are with them please.

Pffff.

I think disguises could have a place in TES.

Though they shouldn’t equal a free pass to do whatever you want without consequences. That would be too easy. FONV was inperfect, but a step in the right direction.

Really, any helm/mask that covers your face could conceal your identity, although that doesn’t mean npc’s could learn to recognize that helm/mask.

I didn't like the disguises in NV at all. I hated how it really limited your options, like someone else said, I loved the CL armor, but loved the NCR. And because of that, I couldn't wear what I wanted, and still side with who I wanted. Not cool.

If they do it in Skyrim, I hope they just use an item that's already in the game, but just put an emblem, or whatever, on it so it signifies you're with that group. That way, if you wanna rep your faction for all to see, you can, but if you just like the way it looks, you don't get penalized either.
