Disgusting food

Post » Thu Jun 25, 2015 4:08 pm

I'm really not a picky eater, but a couple more generalized food dislikes: Food that looks back at me and almost anything that people consider "delicacies." My Father, born in 1920, regaled us with how it was a "treat" to have head cheese for a meal. I nearly regurgitate, just thinking about that even now :)

No excuse. I lived in Des Moines for a little over a year and I know a lot of people there who like seafood. That's like saying because I don't live in Iowa I can't like pork. ;)

I find ketchup almost impossible to imagine tasting without feeling grossed out. When it is squeezed out of a bottle, it sounds like a nasty fart. I began hating ketchup as a result of that nasty sound it made when squeezed out. Cooked cucumbers are nasty to me. Had some in stir fry and they were too soft. It was an awful texture to experience.

Turkey bacon is actually something I prefer over the pig fat bacon. I find turkey bacon to taste better. I'm not that crazy about pork, though. In fact, I hate ham and never have liked it much.

Smoked salmon makes me gag. I'm not a fan of seafood in general, but salmon is just the worst. And tomato juice, which is strange because I love tomatoes in nearly all forms - but juice is utterly disgusting.

I tried beef liver once. It tasted exactly like the taste vomiting leaves in my mouth.

Buttermilk is disgusting, too. I've heard that it can be delicious, if made "correctly". What I had could gag a maggot.

Cucumbers in any form short of pickled. They're just unappealing. Celery too, I can stand neither the flavor nor the texture.

Edit: Bratwurst and sausage in general, as well. Being of German heritage in an an area that's inhabited by a lot of other German immigrants and their descendants, people often get confused when I turn down a brat, especially when they know that I like sauerkraut.

M?mmi and fishrooster.

M?mmi (rye pudding served easter with or without cream and sugar).

Fishrooster (large bread stuffed with fish or swede)

two most horrible finnish foods ever.

Ya just svck it up and go to the Hy-Vee seafood counter and get some! Sheesh! Life ain't all pork tenderloin sandwiches and Maid-Rites!  I think the weirdest thing was my roommate there saying he didn't like Mexican food (said it looked by runny diarrhea on a plate).. I told him if all he had to gauge it by growing up in Clarinda was Taco John's its no wonder he didn't like it. At least during the last two decades a lot of Mexicans moved to Iowa so you can get decent Mexican food now.

Yea, I just never acquired the taste for fish. My family did not have it often and I never missed out on it. The weird thing, though, is that one of my friends treated me to some sushi and I actually enjoyed it :)

As far as Mexican food is concerned, I am not a fan of cilantro, which I think is used in many "Mexican" dishes. It makes the food taste "dusty" to me :)

General Question:

Is there something your family had, maybe a traditional holiday food or something that you never got a taste for?

For me, it was Oyster Stew every Christmas Eve. Mom made us "kids" tomato soup, instead :)

Pickled cucumbers. Their both their flavor and smell is so strong and nasty. Especially sweet gherkins, I can't stand most sweet foods and this combines sweet with something even worse.

My dad was a big duck and pheasant hunter when I was a kid. There are quite a lot of them in the Central Valley of California in the winter months. I never like them - especially the duck. Too dark, too greasy and too "gamey" tasting. Actually, dad hunted a lot and I didn't care for venison either. The surprising thing I didn't mind when I was a kid was fried frog legs. There were tons of big Bull Frogs in an irrigation canol near our home and he and my older brother went frog gigging once in a while. I didn't think I would be able to eat them, but they weren't too bad. Needless to say though I didn't go in for hunting anything. I was too soft-hearted.

Mayonnaise and pumpkin pie. The smell of mayo turns my stomach and everything else about it is just wrong. If mayo inadvertently touches my burger, I will throw away the bun and rinse the patty under water :/
Yay mom burgers...

Pumpkin pie because well I don't really know why. Not sure I've ever tried it but I don't want to.

So many here hate mayo, but I'm wondering: Is that all mayo, or are we talking about the stuff most places use loaded wit corn syrup and other things. Mayo shouldn't have to much oder, as true mayo is just eggs blended with oil with a small amount of an acid.

Probably a balut milkshake. It's essentially a half-grown chicken embryo made into a milkshake, noooo wayy. Aso adobo is another, basically dog meat with sauce made from stray dogs.

Any kind of brain. I'll eat anything else. In fact, I've tried everything else probably lol

Isn't there some swedish food that's basically rotting fish in a can?

That sounds absolutely rank.

Me personally, I can't stand ketchup or sauces in general really. Do love a good curry though.
