Is it dishonoring to take Wuuthrad from Ysgramor?

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 8:41 am

After you gave Wuuthrad back to Ysgramor his statue, you can pick it up later.

But would that be honorable for a Nord? To take his weapon?

I kind of want it for my character, who is very gloomy and dark, but heroic and kindhearted.

That face on the axe screams for: ''I bring you agony.''

Seems like a nice thing for my character.

However, she is also very respectfull about Norse culture, and taking the weapon from one of the greatest Norse heroes might be dishonoring in her eyes. She might prefer to keep the weapon at rest together with Ysgramor in his tomb.

I can always make a Nordic battleaxe, the black fur and the patterns has a pretty dark atmosphere aswell.

Or maybe an ebony battleaxe.

Think of it as a gift from Ysgramor for helping the Companions and to kill the Thalmor too.

A True Nord would gladly wield Wuuthrad to bring further Glory and Honor to the Axe of Ysgramor.

If you use it to kill elves, or have it displayed in a place of honor (like the Companions did) then it's ok.

If you just toss it in a chest somewhere then yeah, that would be pretty dishonorable.

I prefer to leave it there just because it's not that good of an axe and it looks good there. The problem is when I go back (generally to cure someone or myself) I often find it laying on the ground and I can't get the statue to take it again, so I take it home and display it.

It shall be her weapon against any form of opression.

Aka, the Thalmor.

Aswell as Dragons, Trolls, pretty much everything that attacks her.

But for her, it will be a symbol of the freedom the Nords deserve to have. By spilling blood, ofcourse.

I suppose Ysgramor would approve that.

I'll see what I will do, my character just killed her first dragon and just started the companions questline.

So I still got some time to consider.

And I suppose that I could always give the axe to Farkas, who might become my character her love interest anyway.

Two warriors that battle together against the threats of Skyrim like true Nords, that'll be pleasing for Ysgramor, I think.

A true Nord would take the axe and use it as well as take his shield and figure out a way to use it with his axe . . . I am playing as a Dunmer and I am using it against other elves, especially the Thalmor XD

I think in another way, it would be dishonorable. Your wielding a weapon enchanted with, and born with the pure hatred of elven kind. Its corrupting...

However, her parents were arrested (my character assumes they were executed) by the Thalmor ten years ago when she was a child. Which made her an orphan, eventually resulting in deep depression.

Explaining some sort of reason to carry Wuuthrad.

However, she doesn't hate the elves, just the Thalmor.

She can get along with Altmer (and any other mer.) aslong as they aren't Thalmor.

Yep, you can cure your own right away by tossing another witch head on the fire/altar/thing. You can also cure Vilkas and Farkas by talking to them about work (though you need a witch head in your inventory).

As for Wuuthrad, I'd also see it as honoring Ysgramor by continuing his "mission" with his weapon of choice.

I would like to think we had been successful in curing Kodlak while he was alive, the companions would have displayed Wuuthrad on the wall above the stairs in Jorrvaskr like they displayed the pieces. Their history is that that axe was what Ysgramor used to drive back the elves. Jorrvaskr was built to protect Skyforge and the Companions as part of their honor, continue guarding the place as well as wuuthrad. I know they were searching for the pieces and had they come across them all, would have protected them.

We of course know Skyforge was able to assemble the pieces thanks to Kodlak's ashes but still.

I don't think its dishonorable to take it. If I don't use it, I leave it displayed above the door in Breezehome. Better then in his tomb where thieves can take it.

I would only consider it dishonorable if it was to be stored alongside Daedric artifacts (which I use Hjerim for). I would use it on the Thalmor Embassy mission

I always had issues with the fact that there is a two-handed weapon and a Shield. I can use one, or the other, but not both. :(

I really wish we could get the ax back on the wall mount at Jorrvaskr. Why the heck can't I do that!

I wouldn't since it would go against my morals. He's dead, and taking back his weapon that I just reassembled in order to bring it to his statue would be a dishonor.

The best irony for using it was to kill stormcloaks and than Ulfric while not killing any elves with it  also "honor" and "dishonor" are all up to you, they are mortal concepts.

I say take and use it if you wish, it is a key to enter the catacombs and nothing more as far as Ysgramor is concerned since he is now in Sovngarde. I took it back by accident on a later trip and walked off with it. As per an earlier post it belongs either with the Companions or the Harbinger, not as a display piece that can be easily stolen.

If I was the owner of a legendary weapon and passed into the afterlife,

it would sadden me to think that it was being displayed as some kind of ornament either at my tomb or on somebodies wall.

It would be my wish that it was in the hands of a great hero protecting my homeland.

Ysgramor at soup with a fork, if he can manage that I think he could manage to wield a two-handed axe and a shied even if we can't.
