Dismemberment.

Post » Tue Nov 16, 2010 4:49 am

I'd like it, but not like in FO3. FO3's was complete crap, I mean, for every body to come apart into 5 neat chunks...... so lame. :sadvaultboy:

Wasn't it supposed to be over the top and ridiculous in Fallout.

Anyway I'm not too sure about it in Skyrim, it would be cool for sure - but I certainly wouldn't consider it essential

You are a dragonborn! You are simply too awesome for that to happen to you!

Maybe you could grow wings from your missing members!

I'love to see the result from the legs though XD

I'm actually expecting dismemberment now in the form of finishing moves. If a game typically has finishing moves or fatalities, it's typically very graphic and there is usually dismemberment involve. Look at Mortal Kombat and Age of Conan. I would expect Skryim to at least be somewhat similar to AoC in that regard.

 The gaming community is so sadistic.

Yeah - it weirds me out a bit sometimes. I'm not surprised we get stereotyped so often.

I wouldn't say no to realistic gore. Fallout was fun, but a bit too much.

Dismemberment for the win!

My Nord tells me he wants to sit his throne on a pile of claret dripping, severed limbs and heads,

He says his God laughs at de four Winds.

I hope not too, it doesn't fit the Elder Scrolls games, and I don't see why everybody loves to see gore so much, it's a bit disturbing.

I fail to see how it "doesn't fit the Elder Scrolls", you're playing a game which involves hacking at people with large swords and axes here, if anything, it's clean, bloodless combat that doesn't fit. Now, having every death lead to massive dismemberment would be pretty unrealistic, but when I play a game involving swords and axes, it seems just a little silly if I don't see gore on occassion.

And gore is only disturbing if it's handled semi-realistically, gore like in Fallout 3 is really not disturbing at all to me because of how over the top it is.

I would like to see dismemberment happen on occassion, but only rarely, since the game is going to have finishing moves, maybe it could be tied in with those, and at least allowing people to survive dismemberment would really not make much sense, because if your arm gets cut off, you're not going to just get back up and keep fighting, unless you get proper medical attention quickly, you're not going to survive it, though maybe if Bethesda wanted to go into that sort of detail, they could add a special death animation where characters who were dismembered would flail around on the ground and scream and moan in pain for a bit before goind limp and letting the physics engine take over, instead of just dropping dead, though that might be a little more detailed than Bethesda would want to go in this regard.

The gaming community is so sadistic.

I fail to see how you can complain about the gaming community being sadistic when you can enjoy a game that has combat as a major aspect of it, unless you have no interest in the combat aspect of the game at all.

Fallout 3 had over the top gore. You didn't lop a limb off, it exploded off. More silly than gory, but it fit the game :)

For Elder Scrolls I hope it's different if it is in the game. They could limit it to only some of the finishers and make it more realistic. In the sense that my arrow shouldn't make someone's head fly off.

Medieval combat must have been pretty bloody, no?

People who are OK with killing hordes of enemies just as long as there's no blood really freak me out... I imagine a psychopathic Monica from Friends.

I would want dismemberment less than being able to disable or injure limbs.

I don't know how many times I wanted to put an arrow in a leg to slow down one of those insanely persistent bandits, rather than have to fill him with arrows so I could get to my destination.

Indeed. Again, I'm not asking for the same level of gore. But hacking an arm off in mid-combat would be awesome. Leaving your enemy clutching his bloody stump or in the case of more hard-core enemies, still comes at you (ala Lord of the Rings orcs).

yesss but with fountains of blood gushing out,

I like this thinking. Localised damage and different results for hitting different parts of the body.

Dismemberment may be a bit far. I've nothing against it on principle, but I don't think it's going to be practical - either for animating specific limbs being cut off at the point you actually strike or for appealing to a general audience.

The Elder Scrolls Series has always had a wholesome feel to it, and that adds to the charm. That doesn't mean that a little dismemberment would take away from that charm. They obviously couldn't do it to the extent that they did with Fallout, but some would be great. I think it would make the gameplay that much more fun, not to mention the fireball spells.

Dismemberments actually wouldn't realistically happen very much if the opponent is wearing any kind of armor. I could maybe see decapitations as part of a finishing move on enemies with no kind of head protection, but anything beyond that would probably be excessive.

^^I fail to see how anyone can read this post and not agree with the poster.

Dismemberment from large, sharp tools designed to cut flesh only makes sense. Having no blood and gore in a game so full of said large, sharp tools truly is fantasy.

If one could imagine such a thing, I would prefer "tasteful dismemberment".

Thank you.

Not a Fallout level of gore/dismemberment, but limited dismemberment with large weapons on unarmored body parts makes sense. I don't want it to be an insta-death though.

Im hoping for it to be possible ,but rare

Yes. It would mightily annoy me if it happened too often, in a grotesque fashion ; but rarely... It would be very jarring, and would remind you in its gruesomeness that combat isn't pretty.
I'm not trying to sound like a complete psychopath

it would simply be awesome to hack a leg off during a fight and be able to leave our opponent screaming on the ground

Yeah, about that... Err, how can I put it ?

Yes! I disliked the fact that I couldn't dismember someone in Oblivion.

Also, an option to stick heads onto spears please. :celebration:

A total lack of dismemberment would not detract from my my enjoyment of the game at all. An overuse of dismemberment would. If implemented it has to be done right - safer to leave it out.
